UT #2 in Spring Game Attendance

Why don't we get a home and away with Penn State in the near future, which if we tried now it would be 2022 and he will be long gone by then.

I say we both qualify for a bowl game and we pave them and make them drive on it.

bama will pass us in attendance this weekend unfortunately.

I think the point is that Tennessee has had 3 losing seasons and we still get that kind of turnout. Alabama has had 3 very good seasons and still barely get above what we average. We may not finish 2nd but look at the whole picture when comparing.

It may be bigger than that! What did bamawriter call it 'a-day', i believe that stands for anything goes day, hard to say which family member gets this rare invite.

Darn! Got it wrong again. I thought it was aft day.
The day it was done to the stern by the bow.

Lol. Vandymania was proud of it too. I saw a lot of "Great looking crowd! Looks like at least 8,000!"

If they were talking an SEC baseball game, then yeah that's an outstanding crowd (especially at UT, because that means over half is standing outside the stadium).

But even a spring football game, in a 40,000 seat stadium, in the most popular football conference in college football? Many of the other teams in the SEC might be able to get that for an open practice.

Totally agree. With how successful Bama has been in the past 7-8 years one would expect their spring game attendance to be high. If we were as successful as Bama has been, our spring game attendance would be untouchable.

We had over 50,000 for last years open practice

Not really. Human behavior is contradictory over the long haul. In bad times, we look for reasons to hope. We rally around, create stories or claims about events and people that represent that hope. We engage in mass and overt, for wont of a better term, rituals to express a collective faith in that hope. When that hope is fulfilled, we're elated and seek to appease the entity that made it happen with sacrifices, in these days, more money. Additionally, during days of worship in a manner of speaking, we mass attend designated holy places to pay homage to that entity. There we engage in ritualistic musicand various acts of reaffirmation of our hope and faith. As time passes, we become accustom to that assurance and our attendance to certain affirmations decrease. In some cases, stop altogether.

There's a lot of truth in the bolded parts. Just look on this site. I've been a fan since I can remember (late 70's) and I've never heard of the stat that UT is only 1 of 2 teams that hasn't lost 8 games in a season.

That stat has only gained traction in the last couple of years when UT started losing 7 games. It certainly was never brought up in the 90's when only WINNING 7 games was a bad year.

That proves that fans will grasp onto anything to make themselves feel better about their team in times of struggle.

If you're sitting around the bar with rival fans and they're talking about their team's accomplishment a you pull out the "we've never lost 8 games in a season" nugget you'll get laughed out of the place.

Looks like Franklin did the official estimate himself on this one.

Attendance doesn't mean Jack!! You people on here sound like little kids ("we had more fans than you"). Seems like vol fans will try to find anything to brag about if they're not winning: "WE play in the SEC so that makes us tough"; "We had 68000 at the spring game so that makes us tough"; "We're Tennessee so any coach would come here in the drop of a hat (Gruden, Charlie Strong, Shaka Smart etc). Now we have Butch high on a pedestal and he's not proven anything on the field (7-5 record). We are the laughing stock of the SEC and the NCAA -(http://sports.yahoo.com/news/cuonzo...tion-203053186.html?soc_src=mediacontentstory)

Let's wait until we do something on the field before we open our mouths and start bragging!! We are already labeled as "stupid hillbilly's"

Don't feel bad. My wife and my sister go on random griping tangents out of nowhere too. It's a perfectly natural thing for all women.
