I know this is really early but I’ll be going to our SEC opener at Norman this year. This will be my first away game experience and I couldn’t be more excited. What I’m lookin for is any info from folks who have been there on good places to stay nearby, tailgate spots and best visitor seating areas. And for anyone else goin to this game, I’d love to plan a meet up spot ahead of time. Thanks in advance, and GBMF🍊!

I was there back in '15...I actually drove up from Dallas, where I was already that week on business, so I'm no help on places to stay. As for "tailgating"...in Norman they were a fraction of what you see on a Saturday in Knoxville. In fact, there is a small street/strip, just down the street from the stadium filled with bars & restaurants which is their main pre-gaming" routine that we made our way through to their field.

Folks were VERY nice...it'll be interesting if they still are now that they are in Conference. I will tell you one thing...find ANYONE who came the next year (2016) to Knoxville...and they'll treat you like a King...they all LOVED their trip to Knoxville... (including the game outcome) ...they've NEVER seen a spectacle like a Saturday in Knoxville.

I'm going to Norman again this year as well..

*I have several Sooner friends who'll back up my statements

I forgot they did one of those high-res 360 degree pics before the game. Let's Play "Find TAF"

My son and I plan on flying from Nashville as it’s too long of a drive. Plus, he will have classes the following Monday.

Does the UT ticket office still give season ticket holders an opportunity to purchase away game tickets? Or is everything through the secondary market?

Drove up from Houston last time we played there. Not a large stadium compared to other conference programs, but a good seat no matter where you sit.

I'm going. My fiancée's parents live in Oklahoma City and are Josh Heupel's parents' neighbor. They both live in the same small, gated subdivision. I keep hoping to run into Josh in the summer at the pool or Christmas holidays when I visit.....

Norman is basically a suburb of Oklahoma City. My favorite brewery is located in OKC- Prairie Brewing. The Prairie Brewery taproom is fantastic place to hang out and has some great food options. Funny, I live in Florida and last night when I went to buy some beer at our local craft beer/wine store --- I asked the guy at the store what beers he was drinking these days and he responded " right now I'm really into the Prairie beers"...

A meetup spot would be great. Sorry I have not spent any time in Norman before to provide any other info.

Been up there a few times for games but usually just drove up from Dallas the morning of the game.

As the others have said, the Oklahoma pregame festivities will be "quaint" after experiencing UT gameday Saturdays.

Just FYI-Winstar casino is 90 minutes south on I-35 from Norman for those wanting to gamble. It ain't Vegas lol

Season ticket holders will still have the opportunity to buy away games as all SEC schools are required to supply seats to visiting teams. My guess this will be the away game with the highest demand so you may need a higher donor ranking to actually get any.

I booked my flight and hotel already and so i hope to get tickets through the UTAD as the aftermarket will probably be high

Would like to go to the game but can't. However, I CAN comment on Winstar. In case you're not familiar it's just across the border from Texas on I-35. It's quite the experience. Inside it's 1 1/2 miles inside from one end to the other, billed as the World's largest casino. They have different venues inside, the Madrid area, the Bejing area, the New York area, etc. Poker room is at the far end of the casino and they do have free shuttles that will take you to the different areas. They also have two excellent resort golf courses. It isn't Vegas but I think it's definitely worth your time if you like to gamble. Inside they have a Toby Keith restaurant (get the catfish or steak) and a Dallas Cowboys restaurant (hamburgers are good). They have a buffet that's pretty good too. We usually go there once or twice a year from San Antonio. Makes me want to go now. LOL.

A UT buddy hooked me up with the best tailgating experience ever in Norman. Most food I've ever seen hosted by Oklahoma fans with the most alcohol available I've ever seen. They had to large screen TVs with two different games going, Georgia was playing someone. Was a great experience and the Oklahoma hosts were great.

Stayed in Oklahoma City which is a short drive away from Norman. Enjoyed walking around the stadium and the atmosphere.

Look up Bricktown. It is in downtown OKC. A decent nightlife down there such as bars, restaurants, gondola rides through downtown, mini golf etc. good choices there on where to stay downtown. It is a safe/clean downtown area. I live outside of Dallas and have business in OKC. I plan on being at the game. I would also be up for a meetup with other Vols fans.

Besides lsu fans oku fans are decent... Wait now they are sec I could be wrong
No, you're right. Most that I interact with won't be SEC fans, except for the increased paycheck over the Big12. I think there's a ton of respect for Tennessee as a program and school. Still a lot of love for Josh and his time here. Total hatred for anything the fake UT (texsucks) does, up to and including cheering for them to lose to Washington. Most of the fans I am around don't really care much about conference loyalty. They aren't impressed with the SEC title. They love the game, their Sooners, and some of the rivalries (texsucks being the greatest).

As far as game day, tailgating is not impressive compared to what people describe at UT and other SEC schools. OU just this past season re-opened the street in front of the stadium to tailgating, but with a ton of rules. They had shut it down for a few seasons, not sure why, but I think realized that to "compete in the SEC" they needed something. Maybe it gets better as time goes on.

Sooner fans are really very considerate, as long as the opposition is as well. LSU sh!t all over OU fans in the Sugar Bowl back in the early 2000's and have earned the hatred of OU fans. Texsucks fans have to be hated because they are texsucks. Everyone else gets treated decently unless they earn a bad rep. I doubt there will be many issues in the future. My friends who attended the OU/Tenn game a few years back had nothing but great things to say about how they were treated.

Norman is a great town, though other activities are somewhat dependent upon game time. OU has had so many 1100 am start times in the Big12 that it's been hard to be consistent with gameday activities on campus. OKC has really taken off in the past 20 years. Tons of stuff to see and do if you have a little time. As mentioned by some above Bricktown is a solid place to go. Lots to eat and see. The Oklahoma River is right near there and has some cool stuff as well. It's isn't fun, but the OKC Bombing Memorial is very moving and well worth the time. Tons of other stuff.

I went to a TCU-OK game with my son and father-in-law about 17 years ago. My son was a freshman at TCU. He was in full TCU gear and the Oklahoma fans were very nice to him as we walked to the gate. I had on a Tennessee baseball cap and got more ribbing from fans as they thought it was a Texas hat. The best thing was is that TCU won the game.

Planning on going with my brother in law. I went in 2014 and enjoyed it even though we got whipped (thanks Butch). Nice stadium and campus as I recall.
