Not trying to be negative but just sharing some observations.

After reading several sites (Rivals, Scout, Volnation, etc.) it appears the CBJ hire is receiving mixed reviews.

There are the fans that are going to give their support no matter who the coach is. They would support Kiffin if he were brought back.

There are the NegaVols who would complain if we hired the next coming of Vince Lombardi.

Then there is a large group of solid UT fans that are feeling let down by this hire. I don't know that they have a problem wit CBJ but are growing weary of the AD to get them hyped up to only be underwhelmed in the end.

It's going to be interesting to see the impact of this hire over the next couple of years (e.g., ticket sales, donations and recruiting).

I truly hope this works out. Go Vols!

I agree with you completely. I fit in the large group who are let down by the Jones hire, but even more so by the contract and its terms. Dave Hart pulled a Mike Hamilton on the UT football program and pushed us back years in the rebuilding process.

As I have stated before will have to see who the staff will be. What the recruiting class looks like signing day. Those will be indicators for me. Will be interesting to watch for sure.

I like Butch Jones and will support hi 100%. I supported Dooley until this year. I just hope Jones can compete with the recruiting likes of Saban and Miles. We need T Martin as a recruiting coord in a big way IMO. We cannot lose Von Bell either. We have got to start keeping these in state stars at Tennessee.

ala and ole miss were at Bell's semi-final game last night, no UT reps were there. :jpshakehead:

He's not the big hire everyone wanted, but he is a winner that gets the most out of his players. If he can continue that at UT he will be a great hire.

The best group of vol fans are going to sit back and support CBJ and not whine about inconsequentials.

Here's hoping he's the next coming of Vince Lombardi!

This is what people said about dooley, and look where we at at three years later. Three years from now, im afraid we will be back here saying the same thing about another coach..

The AD did not get the fans hyped up. It was posters on this site and others that created the Gruden frenzy.

I think the Dooley factor is why some are skittish with this hire. I think CBJ is a big improvement over Dools but hoping he can compete with the Richt's and the Miles of this league.

As I have posted earlier, CBJ does not meet the criteria Hart laid out in the press conference when discussing what kind if coach he would bring.

This, he totally botched this hire!!! He hamilton'd us..

This x 100....

Compete rush and panic hire.

Just shows that Hart is clueless. He obviously planned on keeping Dooley around right up until the Vandy ass kicking.

Then he makes no inroads. Just sits around waiting for a low level coach to come to us.

And he found his over paid and under qualified man
..

Dooley never won and never had a history of getting 3 star players to over achieve and into the nfl. CBJ has that history.

If Hart is telling the truth that there was limited contact with Gruden, shouldn't he have come out and dispelled the rumors publicly?

Big mistake on Harts part IMO.

Depends upon what side of fence you are from. I will bet a COKE that the stadium will be filled to the rafters for AP but probably only 10% or less of VN will actually be there. We just bought Season tickets. Had given them up 6 years ago.. Book the hotel, fill the cooler, load up the SUV and wait for September.

20 posts into this thread and you can clearly see the fans are hardly united. This will play out exactly like Dooley in that regard. If Jones ends up being a flop it will be an exact mirror. Half the fan base wanting him strung up by his toes, while the other half chastises the first because Butch was benevolent to lend his services to us for a mere charitable fee of 3 million a year.

If he wins the people strongly opposed to him will just wait in the wings until he loses then they will light it up. Anything short of a NC will never earn their love, even if he goes to a BCS bowl and wins. Going to make these boards pretty fun for the next few years that is for sure.

Good for you NC. Did you have to give the required donation? I heard they were not going to require a donation and were lowering ticket prices as well. Not sure if true.

As my old daddy use to say "they said and I heard are the two biggest liars in the world". He was a smart man.

You have a group that is going to be happy with the hire, one that's not and another that is going to sit back and watch to see what happens. I fall into the last category and I think the majority will.

It's not the hire that most of us wanted, but he's here now and all we can do now is see how it plays out. I wanted Patterson, but it didn't happen and trust me, I went through the pissed off stage yesterday morning.

As to the original question, UT fanbase reunited? Not even close.
