UT fan base reunited?

20 posts into this thread and you can clearly see the fans are hardly united. This will play out exactly like Dooley in that regard. If Jones ends up being a flop it will be an exact mirror. Half the fan base wanting him strung up by his toes, while the other half chastises the first because Butch was benevolent to lend his services to us for a mere charitable fee of 3 million a year.

If he wins the people strongly opposed to him will just wait in the wings until he loses then they will light it up. Anything short of a NC will never earn their love, even if he goes to a BCS bowl and wins. Going to make these boards pretty fun for the next few years that is for sure.

Next year is going to be tough to swallow. Most are predicting at best a 6 and 6 season.

This is what people said about dooley, and look where we at at three years later. Three years from now, im afraid we will be back here saying the same thing about another coach..

I think the difference here is that DD had a losing record when he came to UT. CBJ has won at the schools he has coached at. Now before you say it, I know it was not the SEC but all you can ask of a guy is to prove that he has won where he is and he has done that. He may very well be a flop in three years but I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise.......GBO !!!!

Next year was going to be tough regardless of who the coach is. The game to watch will be Auburn on 9 Nov. We'll get to see which coach has made the biggest strides in their first year.

The fanbase is passionate. Unfortunately, with passionate people you get both sides of the coin. Passion in love....and passion in anger.

And that's what makes the Volnation great! We may disagree but deep down in our hearts we all love our Vols!

I agree. We have to stay ahead of KY, Vandy and Auburn. Then we need to work our way ahead of SC to get this thing back on track.

Not trying to be negative but just sharing some observations.

After reading several sites (Rivals, Scout, Volnation, etc.) it appears the CBJ hire is receiving mixed reviews.

There are the fans that are going to give their support no matter who the coach is. They would support Kiffin if he were brought back.

There are the NegaVols who would complain if we hired the next coming of Vince Lombardi.

Then there is a large group of solid UT fans that are feeling let down by this hire. I don't know that they have a problem wit CBJ but are growing weary of the AD to get them hyped up to only be underwhelmed in the end.

It's going to be interesting to see the impact of this hire over the next couple of years (e.g., ticket sales, donations and recruiting).

I truly hope this works out. Go Vols!

put me in the let down category, but i'm still looking at recruiting and taking the wait and see approach.

Already seeing people excusing next year because of the tough schedule. We're never going to not have a tough schedule, so Jones is either the man who can win with that kind of schedule in which case, I'm sure he'll become a fan favorite, or he's not, in which case, he can GTFO and take Hart with him. No more year zeros. No more excuses. This is not little league where everyone gets a trophy for showing up. Welcome to the SEC, Coach.

Butch has my approval until he proves me wrong.. i love his attitude and work ethic. Who his assitants are will determine his success. We were ok offensively this year.. worst tenn defensive i ever saw. Embrassment... i believe this young man will put fire in this team and discilline. Go vols...

I'm in the wait and see mode as well.Just have no faith in the AD!After the Kiffin and Dooley disaster just gonna be hard for some people to go ALL IN!It sucks going from expecting to win every game to going "Can we win?"Just because some people(me included)want to wait and see if he can recruit with the big boys to fully endorse this guy doesn't make us 1 way less of a fan.I love UT,the players that give their all!I think he's a Definate upgrade over Dooley. Can he recruit? That's the question IMO.If you don't have the horses how can you win the race?

Pht me in the wait and see camp.... I feel like Jones ( i just can't call a grown man BJ...) will be alright once he gets past what will almost certainly be a rough first year... After NEXT February we'll know dor sure whether he can recruit and if he can i bet he'll do well enough to get us to the 8-9 win plateau by 2014 which will be OK for the time being... He needs to at least get us to Atlanta by 2015-16 or things will start to go badly for him...
