UT gets warning to protect Jews

they listed three events. 2 of which lead to arrests before this letter, and a third where a professor equated the killing of Palestinians to the actions of the Nazis.

not seeing an issue here, or any reference to events that need to be corrected to "protect the Jews".

Just to make sure I'm caught up here on this Administration:
Speech deemed to be anti-Israeli War: Verbotten. Strongly worded letter threatening universities if they don't limit free speech.
Literal neo-Nazis marching around towns spewing hate speech: "Hey that's just the first amendment, baby!"

Also, Trump's inclusion of "NO MASKS!" in all caps was a bizarre non sequitur at the end of his statement, if he was referring to COVID-related masks. Was he talking about Muslim women wearing hijabs? I would hope not, but that would make more sense than bringing up COVID in a statement discussing anti-Semitism. Weird.

.... and does the Department of Education have the jurisdiction to expel students as Trump threatened?

There are times when Trump talks very much like an autocrat.

He's likely referencing those wearing things like ski masks, gaiters, etc for the sole reason of concealing their identity. No intelligent person is wearing a mask for covid and also protesting

It’s in regard to agitators wanting to hide, but you knew that.

Trump's statement was nevertheless ridiculous. The federal government does not have the jurisdiction to expel students. That authority rests with local school boards and school districts and the administrators of the specific college/university involved.

there was the federal employee complaining about the email asking her what she did last week.

its dumb, but plenty of people are out there with those blue throw away masks in protests.

You’re reaching today and really want this to be a liberal rally cry.

Reaching? You think the federal government has the jurisdiction to expel students? I'm doing nothing but reading Trump's ridiculous statement.

..... and there is no small degree of irony coming from a President who just pardoned people who had committed crimes while protesting the 2020 Presidential Election - including those who can be seen on video committing assaults. Some of whom were even wearing attire which covered their faces.

They have the jurisdiction to withhold federal funding. That's always the hook for the feds.
