UT is Out

It's funny because they are a border line top 25 team and we lost on the road, when these other top 25's are losing to no names (cough Michigan cough cough) and our fanbase was ready to fire our coach. I give it a 9 because I was seeing people on here that I have never seen before and sounded like they had no basketball knowledge at all. It's crazy how quick they disappear, but IMO we'll see them this weekend if we lose.

Lol I think since football has been sucking they wanted to see something good from the basketvols. So when it didnt happen and we lost, they lost their ****. I don't blame them though it feels like it's been along time since any real positive thing has happend to our university. But to be honest that loss did not warrant what happend on this board afterwords.

That was my point. They don't appear to be the crestfallen bunch many portrayed them as in the hours following that loss.

Dont think it had anything to do with our opponent.....everyone thinks we are loaded and this is our year....It was pretty deflating watching us get man handled by Xavier.

We played like cat sh!t on a hot hibachi and shot 36% from the stripe. Not a promising start after hearing how greatly improved the roster is over last season. Reason for concern considering that we saw all the same problems with this team's first game that we had seen his first two seasons. Obviously was overreaction to call for his head and give up on the season already, but understandable that people would be frustrated.

Didn't say destroyed but that's the way it felt to me......never really felt like we made much of a game of it

We cut it to 1 point at least twice, and lost by 4. I think we made a game of it. We shouldn't have been in that position arguably, but it was a close game over the final 10 minutes really.

I know it doesn't matter, but it is a bit surprising to me that he has us that far down as to be out of the tourney.

Despite the fact that we've still proven nothing, most analysts (or at least the ones I follow, like Gottlieb and Davis) still seem to believe us and have us as locks. Lunar do really dropped us.

We need a big win though, cause I'm really not sure Lunardi was wrong to do so. Haha

They were missing a starter or two, and I felt we were the more talented team. They dictated tempo and how the game was played. They pretty much led the entire game and usually by 8-9 points. Yes we made a couple small runs in the second half but they lasted for about a second and boom it was back to 8-9. I know a lot people focus on the word man handled but its whatever word that u want to use......they whipped us from beginning to end. Most disappointing opening game I have watched as a Tennessee fan.

I don't disagree with much of that. I just take exception to your comment that we never made a game of it. It may have seemed like Xavier had their way, and for the majority of the game they did, but we cut it to 1 point several times (even if it ballooned back to 8-9 at times) and lost by 4. We were right there in the end, and that's when it matters.

The argument that we should have never been in that position is a different argument altogether, and is where many people's frustration is manifested.

My original point was that the ensuing freakout in the immediate wake of that loss was a total overreaction, and that playing/losing to Xavier on the road wasn't akin to playing/losing to South Dakota Tech in front of a packed TBA, even if it were a game we should have won. Xavier isn't a bad team, and that loss isn't a bad loss.

Feel free to disagree though.

Taking care of bees wax in the B for Atl tourney will have plenty of impact on the polls. 4 games into the season, not much matters less than this current ranking I think.
