UT Martin Game thread

News flash, but that's exactly how we have played the last 5 games. We've only played 12 games, so it's not exactly a one time thing.

Again, solid work. We also hammered a couple of very good teams and won many in a row prior. We have issues with our coach, our roster and our focus. That doesn't change the advantage we have most nights.

I think our coaching, especially on the prep, teaching and discipline fronts us atrocious and we're seeing that manifest itself. We're still very big and very talented.

Seems that nothing comes easy in non-conference play any more!
I know there are some tough games on the schedule and then there are some of the games the Vols should win by double figures-at least by 10. What gives?

He does more on the court than the rest of the team. We lose Pitt without him.

That is the only game that has happened. Every other game he is his lazy, soft self. He camps out at the 3 point line, uses the same move towards the basket ever time, and either gets it stripped 50% of the time or makes a bad floater. And on defense, he's non existent. He's a joke of a player. I'm sorry, but he is. He gets hot once or twice a year but typically he is liability.

true but playing poorly is exactly what we're doing. crappy teams play poorly. just sayin not trying to be a jack***. we'll get out of this slump eventually

I'm not arguin that we're playing anything but poorly. We've never been well coached and this is how it happens when nobody makes people make plays and the roster is in turmoil, along with the coach.

Didn't Nova and Pitt try to play us man to man and little zone. Might explain some of the difference.

woo easy there VG. he's either hot on O or not. that's the only time he might play is when he is on offense. watch him on D, he gets beat by his man all the time, and does not even try to get back. he is the most overrated player we've had as far as i remember

What is this "solid work" thing? Is that your comeback?

Listen, again, I applaud your optimism, but the fact is those are two different teams that you are talking about. If we played Pitt right now we'd lose by 30 points. I have no doubt in my mind about that.

We have an advantage on paper, but if the guys aren't putting forth any effort and you have no offensive identity, it makes no difference. That is clear given how we have performed against vastly, and I mean vastly inferior competition. Those guys should be able to roll out of bed and beat UT Martin by 20 points.

I think we are kind of saying the same thing on a couple of points, but the bottom line about it that you seem to be ignoring is we are a pretty bad basketball team right now.

I'm still frustrated with this team, but a win is still a win. We better correct our mistakes or CoC will mop us on our own floor. GO VOLS

The team needs to get serious NOW!:good!:If they don't the team will struggle throughout the season and will be lucky to get a top 8 seed in one of the regionals.

If Pitt, or anyone else, mans us up, we can play with them, period.

I'm not ignoring our issues. I damn well know that zones will kill us. We have been uncoached against the zone for the entirety of our coach's tenure. Patient zones and our shooting are going to lead to ugly and tight games. As long as we'll play through Tobias when it matters, we'll win our share.

Our whole team is hot or not. Think about it...we don't have a single player who is a go to guy that we can depend on every game. I think he's sensitive and lets bad plays get to his head. Could be wrong but I like him. I can't wait for McBee and Pearl to graduate. Geeze they stink.

Why would a team man up on us if we are clearly awful against any type of zone defense? That'd be like saying "If Pitt tied their shoelaces together and wore blindfolds we could totally stay with with them." It's a moot point.

Nonetheless, I don't think it has to do with the defense we face. We saw zone before the last few games. I just think this team has borderline quit. The effort is nowhere near the same on defense, offense, or on the glass. Players are standing around, making lazy fouls, not getting to loose balls, and shooting bad jump shots. It's just a joke to watch, and anything beyond admitting that is hard for me to agree with.

I still don't understand why we don't try to use Tobias in the middle of the zone like we used to use Tyler Smith. He seems to handle the ball well inside and may be a better shooter than Tyler.

He does make stupid mistakes sometimes but at least he scores. Players like Mcbee and Pearl screw up and can't make up for it by scoring.

He is definitely a better shooter than Tyler, and I agree, but we have to remember he is still a freshman. I think this is the direction the offense will eventually go once we lose a few more games with Hopson as our go to "option."

Comparing McBee and Pearl to Hopson doesn't even begin to make sense. Those guys are walk on players. Hopson is a 5 star McDonalds All American. Let's not be silly.

I'm saying Bee and Pearl shouldn't even be out there at all. Hopson is a bit of a disappointment as a Mc's All American I'll agree with that. And I love being silly...don't try to dampen my silliness!! :p

Freshman or not, we have to try something to break down this zone because I have a feeling thats all we are going to see the rest of the year and we all know we don't have the outside shooters to beat the zone.

Yep, I agree. And he's not your average Freshman by any means.

VG just because someone can score points doesn't make him good. i'd rather have someone who plays good defense instead of Hopson who plays good offense every now and then

And while Hopson does score points, he by no means does it efficiently. He shoots a bad percentage and turns the ball over like crazy.

I knoooow! I just feel bad for him! Err'body be hatin! He's one of the better players we have right now! Gotta make lemonade! I'm ready for Tobias and friends to grow into their own.
