I don’t think Heupel has ever had a champioship staff til hopefully now , I know we made the playoffs but realistically had no chance at winning it , our baseball team went to Omaha several times with not much of a chance to win it , big difference in a title contender and just making the playoffs , Love what Barnes has done and not sure on Coach Kim , not seeing a basketball championship anytime soon , hope I’m wrong .

Heupel's contract has playoff incentives and likely other incentives for wins, etc. I feel certain Barnes likely does also. All the coaches have those built in to their contract, I'd bet.

Oh, for sure. Which makes sense! But I have not seen A) a disincentive for coach underperformance (playing with fire) or B) what I proposed, which was a plateau incentive for players. Maybe that exists, and certainly this is not the only program that could conceive such an approach, but I think sweetening the deal on certain recruits by saying "hey, by the way, you'll receive $xMM more if we make the Final Four/$yMM more if we cut down the nets in April" is a reasonable approach in the current Wild West.

Pro players have incentives. There's a clip of Gronk telling Brady he needs another catch for a million dollar bonus so Brady dumps it off to him and he's on the sidelines thanking Brady and saying "I got a millie!"

Obviously, college players aren't pros and NIL can't be performance based nor can revenue sharing. I assume you don't want college ball to be pro ball so that's not happening until the players are employees and signing performance contracts and the league is a pro league.

No agent is going to accept a contract for a coach that has anything but "morals" disincentives. WAY TOO MUCH can go wrong that isn't the fault of the coach. Fines for missing team events or practice or whatever, sure, but you can't put a loss on a coach, usually, or the players could cut his throat intentionally.

Always doubtful of anyone else’s speculation. I don’t think you could turn in a report in college on speculation unless you wanted and deserved an F. lol

There has to be some nuance to NIL and revenue sharing. I played baseball since age 5 and still coach my son. TV got me back into watching Vols baseball. I’ve probably watched ten times as much baseball than LV basketball. But….LV basketball is a blue blood. Pat Summit set the standard in the 80’s, and while it’s down, I would prefer her legacy remain.

In this changing environment in college athletics, there has to be some give and take. I’m not a fan of a school that just puts a sport to the side and essentially doesn’t care about it. I obviously didn’t want TV to leave, but we made him the highest paid coach (until JJ), committed to $100 million in stadium upgrades, and had the biggest baseball budget based on numbers a few months ago. When you are a college coach, you know there are other programs fighting for money, and sometimes, you have to be a team player. I know some will just instantly criticize administrative decisions, but this landscape is getting complex. I would like to see as many of our sports succeed. JMO.

I obviously do not keep up with finances in WBB. I just do not see the following as big as baseball but I may be wrong. I know there are a large group of older Summitt fans that still support women's basketball because they were her fans.
Yes, I would put a production clause in every coach's salary. You only get certain money if you win. But I also know football is king and that is where most of the money is coming from. If you are not a revenue producing sport it should be tied to wins. Just my thoughts.
Not too many years ago, I would venture to guess there were way more LV’s fans than baseball fans. Obviously, TV changed that.

This isn’t college or grade school. It’s a message board that involves lots of opinions and some speculation. There’s no grading done here or papers or thesis—just no running down players or taking cheap shots. 👍🍊👊😀👊🍊👍
