That is what Ralph and Karen are saying... she has really blossomed into a team leader on and off the field and the community service work she is doing and her time with "Averi" has been amazing... that little girl and her family is a huge part of Melissa's and my Family's life!!

I like the #1 ranking, but I do believe 3-5 would be a better accounting of the team at this point. The SEC coaches were nearly unanimous in picking Florida to win the league, and it's hard to argue with that, either. Florida will be very, very good.

Erin Gabriel is full-go in practice so far and is well on pace to be a solid #2 for the team. Her ability to pitch well and keep Ellen off the field early in the year will be a key to UT's success. If she can consistently win the Saturday games all season, UT will be in good shape.

Cheyanne Tarango will also be very important to UT in the circle, although probably more as a reliever than a starter. She is wicked effective one time through a lineup. I forsee her splitting a lot of midweek games with Ellen/Erin and then being the primary reliever if needed on weekend games.

What is Cheyanne's pitch that makes her a good choice for reliever? Just curious.

Cheyanne has a nasty change up and off speed pitching with makes her fastball a little faster. I agree that she would be effective as a change of pace used only once through a great hitting lineup and maybe twice through the lineup on a decent hitting team...

If you started Ellen or Erin, you could turn to Cheyanne to give the hitters a different look.. hitting is about timing... keeping the hitters off balance and guessing is always a great strategy for success.

Got a pitcher in the house and was curious. Working on her change up tonight as a matter of fact. Only so much we can work on from 35 feet. Thanks for the info

Melissa's drop ball and a change up helped get us 4th place at ASA 12u National Championships in 2005.

if a pitcher misses with a riseball, its a homerun.

if a pitcher misses with a drop ball, its a single.

Melissa was my only daughter... I have a 6'5" son who is a computer geek.

Melissa is VFL.... my wife and I didn't go to UT but we are honorary VFL... we have many dear Tennessee friends who we now consider part of our family... so if anything, I will probably post more than I can with Melissa playing.

Averi's Dad was sending me Videos of Melissa's at bats today...
She reached by error on a ground ball to third her first at bat....She singled to left and stole second... she had a standup triple to right.... she popped up on a rise ball.... and homered over the scoreboard into deep left center field

Season starts next Friday against Northern Colorado.

It's suppose to rain this weekend in Statesboro Georgia... definitely not an expert on the weather for the southeast so I do not know to what extent this will affect this weekend's games...

Oklahoma dropped their season opener to Cal State Fullerton. Should help UT solidify their #1 ranking as long as they don't also slip up this weekend.

If Ellen Renfroe is a dominate pitcher this season looks like we have replaced the hitting we lost. All the freshmen can hit the ball. I am interested to see what Gabriel can do this season every team needs a solid second pitcher.
