In case you haven't heard Tommy West fired his defensive coordinator, the venerable Joe Lee Dunn. West himself will be the DC and HC the remainder of the year. For those that don't remember Tommy as a player and assistant at UT he was a tough hard nosed guy. Even though Memphis is 1-2 so far they have two weeks to prepare for the Vols.

This will be a potential loss for the Vols as they will be looking to go to Athens to play Georgia the following week. Ordinarily in these games we have managed to survive by pounding the rock. This year we can't run a lick. If Memphis has a mobile QB (I haven't seen them play) then that will cause defensive problems.

It's been exactly ten years since Memphis(State) beat UT and I was there for that unfortunate game and I plan to be there this year even though I have this bad feeling about us losing this year also.

If Memphis couldn't beat the Vols last year, I doubt they will this year.

Thus far they have losses to perennial powers Mississippi and my boys from ECU.

Not that that means anything... *cough*VanderbiltMTSU*cough*

Oh well.

They will have an actual QB this year in facing UT. They got some JuCo guy. He looked decent against Ole Miss.

Memphis defense will not stop the Vols.....the UT wr's will have a field day against the pitiful Tiger D....Tigers qb is decent but thats it...the big orange will stomp Tiger High!

I hope you are right, but in '96 our receivers were Joey Kent, Marcus Nash, Jermaine Copeland and a young Pearless Price. We had a pretty good Qb in Peyton Manning despie what Hatevol says.

If we managed to lose to the Memphis Kittens then I would expect the AD to call CPF and leave a message on his cell phone asking for his immediate resignation and a willing sacrifice of his first born as an apology.

Yeah, they probably would have beaten us last season if DeAngelo Williams played.

This year, they're worse and we're better. I know sometimes even the super colossal upsets happen, but this isn't one of those times.

I lived in Memphis, went to med school there met my wife there, and know that their football team will sell out to beat UT. If we play well we will win. If we play like we did against AF we will lose and the season will be downhill from there.

The two non-conference teams to worry about were Cal and Air Force: Cal because of their talent and Air Force because of the option. Memphis and Marshall are middle-of-the-pack mid-majors with no particular wrinkle or game breaker.

Memphis does not worry me. The upset I'm most worried about is the trip to Fayetteville.

Maybe we'll onside kick the opening kickoff. :dance2:

This is my city and I know first hand what Memphis can do. Memphis has a mediocre back at best that doesn't like to get hit ( Joe Doss) he is a great kid but can't endure hard hits. Memphis strongest offensive point are their receivers. They are tall but not real fast. The defense is in disarray and will not be turned around in 2 weeks. No scrambling QBs, Hankins (starting QB) will take off but not get far. If we are having a bad day we should win by 7 if we're having a great day we should win by 21. Now #45 is an all american safety and that is not hype he's legit, However he can't be on both sides of the field at the same time meaning Meachem wide left and Swain wide right, so we will be alright against Memphis.
