Yeah it's going to be an interesting offseason having to face them first game of the season. They just shut down a solid O, and ours is well....:(

As much as I'm impressed with Utah State I am disappointed in NIU. They took a step back tonight.

No offense to anybody but what was so impressive about either team? Neither team showed much dominance on either side of the ball. These are two average teams from very weak conferences and tonight it showed.

The thing is that UTAH St has had "numbers wise" one of the top Ds in the country. Figured once they played a good O with a Heisman finalist they would be exposed. They weren't. Plus add the fact they get their "good" QB back.

At the end of the day man...r the Vols impressive enough for anyone to bet the house on them beating anyone???...NO (imho).

Those two teams were in a bowl game. A bowl game in which the winner received a trophy. The Vols were not. This depresses me tremendously.

Why has Lynch been talked up as an NFL prospect by the way? Average arm, zero touch, and falls flat in big games.

Utah state's play in the second half against a quality opponent impressed me. Did it not you? I didn't expect NIU to rollover for most of the game either so I get your point for the most part.

Wow what a sad Vol fan. They have played nobody really and we beat the #11 team in the country this season.

They lost to Utah by 4. A Utah team that beat standford. They also lost 17-14 to USC in L.A. This team played 2 PaC12 teams as their non-conferance teams. They aren't going to come into Neyland and be intimidated. They r going to play us hard, and be ready. They will come in thinking they can and will beat us. ATP UT isn't in any position to be cocky or thinking we can beat any team. If they are they will get beat by a team like that. Just like GA Southern beat UF.

Beating USCjr this year should gives us no more confidence than we should have had after almost beating them last year. Imo I never hang my hat on a win that needed a combination of a miracle catch and their QB getting hurt at a key pt of the game. That's just me.

We laid a huge egg the second half of the season. We shouldn't be cocky that's all. Go out work hard, give every team the respect they deserve cause just because we are Tennessee isn't going to win any games. Just like having gray uni's.

I'm aware of where this team is at and how long it'll take to get where they want to be.

Utah state is a bad matchup for us early in the year, with all the young guys we'll be playing. End of the year would be different, but we don't get that chance.

What about them makes a bad matchup? Humor me.

Also, Matt Wells, their HC, is ending his 1st season there and has not had a huge road game like coming to Knoxville.

Keeton probably won't be ready.

Yes, they will be a decent opponent but their team will look so different next year. We'll win by 17+

If Keeton isn't ready, so be it. If he is, he's an awful matchup for a very young defense.

Our team won't look different? New o-line, new D-line. Walk ons still have the opportunity to start again. Unproven at QB.

They're a well coached team and a tough W for most teams.

Thanks for the breakdown. We have a whole new OL and a bunch of holes being filled with little experience too. It'll be a plus if Keeton isn't playing, but like I said before we won't know if or how he'll play until game time. He's shown enough imo to merit the respect of waiting and seeing how he plays. It's sad to say but of course we want him to not be ready, but they have a QB with solid experience and has won. Garretson is a freshman, so he'll have his errors. So if he plays that'll be good. Still though we can't be confident of where WE r if we let them to close or if we aren't playing them at full strength. Theses games need to be practice games where we r testing things out, and getting kinks out. So that's a concern for me.

Wells was the OC and an assistant at there so he's taken over right where Anderson left off. He coached at Navy too so has discipline in his players. He wants to shut down the running game not just stop it, so of course we need to have a QB that can start controlling his passes during the offseason. I said it before in this thread...NIUs O scheme looked similar in ways to ours with Dobbs. So unless there is something new under CBJs sleeve this team could be ready to defend what we bring. They are doing nothing but preparing for UT for 8 more months....:/

We should beat them just not one who thinks we should think it's a gimmie. Hopefully our guys watched them play last night, and thinking the same thing.

Just me though...
