Utah to the PAC-10 per ESPN

Yeah, I would think they would be about the third or fourth best team in the PAC-10, should get a pretty decent bowl.

Another point is that I would guess this will crush any hopes of the MWC getting an automatic BCS bid, unless they think that adding Boise State and losing Utah is an upgrade.

What if Boise State wins the NC this year?

From local news.

By joining the Pac-10, Utah will be able to increase their current television revenue from $1.2 million per year to between $8-10 million per year, with even more possible if Larry Scott, the commissioner of the Pac-10, is able to renegotiate a new TV contract.

Board of trustees to vote on it tomorrow. Don't see them turning it down.

Don't you have to have a championship game once you reach 12 teams?

wont happen, wont come close.

This is a great move for Utah - they have played D1 football for a long long time and have paid their dues. Pac needed a body and they're not a bad program to get. Its much better than the flavor-of-the-month Boise St who has only played D1 football for 9 years.

I think that is giving them too much credit.

Are there going to be PAC 10 divisions?

What are they?

reportably:

USC
UCLA
colorado
Utah
UA
ASU

Cal
Stanford
Oregon
OSU
WSU
UW

if so look for Cal/Stanford to go postal. they've played the LA schools for 100 years straight in some cases and playing them every year definetely helps recruiting and ticket sales. not sure why the pac-10 would bend over to colorado and utah.

It looks like USC got the easier division if that is the breakdown.

Exactly, Pac-10 just added 2 valuable pieces to their territory: ehhh, Utah and Colorado...

Well, at least they didn't add the Mormons.

Utah not so much (obviously), but they wanted the Denver market, which the Buffalos gave them

One guy I saw on TV said that PAC 10 already effectively had a good share of the Utah and Colorado markets (a lot of alums there) so this wasn't that big of a pickup.

I've never watched much TV there so I don't know if that's true or not.

This is going to have a huge impact on the utah program...it will be interesting to see where they're at in about 5 years.

fwiw, i lived in leadville, colorado and it is right on the continental divide. the tv coverage was leaning to the pac 10, because i sat just to the western side of the divide. so, therfore i was blacked out of anything east of that if a pac 10 game was on. so picking up denver gives them some edge on the eastern side of viewing. i just remember that because, i would rant quite a bit when i had to deal with the pac 10 and not get to see the vols. utah i would think would have already been in the market of pac 10 coverage. but as a team utah is a much better pickup than colorado.

Now that Boise St. is in the MWC, Utah (like are the other BCS schools) are scared to play Boise St.....That is why they are leaving the MWC. :p

and what are they resident West Coast, drunk mascot's thoughts on all this?

i'm in favor as long as we don't cut our 90+ year tradition of playing ucla and usc every year. not sure how they are going to deal with that. it's not about ratings it's about the number of cable providors in these major media markets that will be forced ot offer the pac-12 network. shoudl drive a lot of money.

i very much doubt it woudl be part of the basic cable package without utah or colorado

I was about to totally disagree with you on this. My point was going to be they don't have the talent or depth. However, I checked into their recruiting and they finished 32nd last year behind 5 other Pac-10 teams. That's pretty impressive actually for a MWC school. I hope they do well.
