‘23 VA ATH Cameron Seldon (Tennessee Commit)

Considering the high number of offensive plays, I'm wondering about the ratio of sacks to passing plays compared to other teams.

Tennessee was 4th in the SEC and 20th in the country. We didn't reach the amount per game we wanted because we had too many 3 and outs. Those sacks factored into that heavily

i think the sacks will go down this year. it wasn't the 3 and outs so much as it was the lack of 1st/2nd down production at times, that led to more predictable 3rd down situations. that's the only real criticism i had for this offense was that it was so feast or famine. we were either scoring TD's in 3-5 plays, or punting.

but 2nd year in the system, better understanding of how defenses will react, better understanding of situational football, hopefully and improved run game....and i think you'll maybe see more designed runs for HH. point being, for this offense to truly work, 1st down production has to be at the top of the list. 2nd and 10 sucks. they way this offense wears down opponents is getting in to 2nd and less than 4 or 5 situations. so the ability to spread the ball around will be key.

anyway, i think that gets better this year, and i think we'll see more drives that string together more plays. we still won't win many TOP battles, but we should always win the # of offensive plays game.

Yeah also by all accounts from the staff, they said Hooker has a better grasp and control of the offense and going through his reads/progressions. Should be exciting to watch.

How you gonna say it wasn't 3 and outs and then describe 3 and outs haha??

We had a fairly opportunistic defense. Just not deep enough to handle the strain of sheer volume of offense plays against them, and possession to defend.

You're correct in that we need to dominate plays per game if we're going to continue this style.
It was year one. I have to remind myself of that for being over critical.

Plove23, how are we standing with the best all-around recruit in the nation now? Thanks
A lot of folks around here are rooting for you guys, thinking he will choose Tennessee. I think practice or something starts today for high school football, I'm waiting for him to reply to me. But it definitely is a Vol Vibe mainly around. 🍊🍊
