I remember being at this game and seeing this when I was 10 …..This has to be close to record.
WhoaI remember being at this game and seeing this when I was 10 …..
“Another special-teams record: Kent Elmore’s 81-yard punt in 1988 at Vanderbilt will live on. That’s the modern-era standard. A 100-yard punt was recorded in 1902. Before the days of Shields-Watkins Field, the gridiron might have been downhill.”

if I remember correctly it was a really windy game and Tennessee actually punted on 3rd and long while the wind was at their backs right near the end of the quarter. Vandy wasn’t prepared and had no one to field the punt and it rolled all the way to their 2 yard line. Really smart move by majors. Backed up vandy and led to tennessee getting good field position when vandy went 3 and out and then had to kick into the wind as it was still 1st quarter.I remember being at this game and seeing this when I was 10 …..

Great story, that reminds me of an Auburn game at Neyland back in the 70’s, it was like a monsoon, it was raining so bad, in the second half, Bill Battle had the team punting on first downs instead of trying to handle the ball, it really pissed off their Coach who refused shaking Hands with Battle when the game finished. We ended up winning 21-0.He should transfer to punter U.
