I was rooting for Florida to win, because I live in Nashville and want to keep the Vandy fans quiet. But when Demps scored that stupid TD I was kind of hoping Vandy would win to punish he for the stat padding.

Yes, that is the correct play in the situation. It would have guaranteed the win. Florida takes a couple of knees and the game is over. Instead Vandy gets the ball back scores quick and was an onside kick away.

No the first down would have guaranteed the win. The TD gave the ball back to Vandy. The only chance Vandy had of winning was getting the ball back.
