Vanderbilt vs Florida (12:00 PM....ESPN3?)

I feel like people underestimated just how awful this Florida team was. They beat us at full strength, but with injuries/Brent Pease at OC/not playing against Peterman QBs every week, they're really, really bad. Worst Florida team since 1979.

I'd argue but it'd be tough since you are absolutely right.

I hate to say it, but it's pretty clear at this point that Franklin can coach. I bet he winds up at USC.

I just can't believe 2 of the last 3 years Florida is going to be 6-6 and 5-7 (barring a miracle), and both years we lost to them.

Unreal.

Franklin wants the USC job. He's just waiting for them to come calling.

I bet he will finish out the season and whatever Bowl game Vandy gets before leaving. While he's shown the ability to coach, is resume isn't that great.

Much as I hate Franklin, only bad thing I have to wonder now, even if he leaves, this might not necessarily result in Vandy going back to the bottom. He and to a lesser extent Bobby Johnson have shown folks the last few years that while Vandy is certainly not a championship level team, they aren't necessarily a dead end program to run either.

From a traditional dumpster fire team that hadn't been to a Bowl or had a winning season since 1982 to now looking at their fourth winning season and bowl bid in less then a decade.

I'm pretty convinced Franklin wants out, because I think he's realized that even winning isn't enough to get support. He's about to take Vandy to a bowl for the 3rd straight year and it's possible they could finish 9-4 for the second straight year. And yet they still can't get a 40K stadium full. He seemed very frustrated in the preseason when season ticket sales weren't any better than last year (in fact they may have been slightly worse).

I mean if a 3 year period where you go to a bowl each year, and beat UT, Georgia, Auburn, and Florida (even if they were all down and/or injured) can't get Vanderbilt Stadium full of Vandy fans, I don't know what will.

Y'all are giving Franklin way too much credit for beating Florida. Remember they did not compete against USCe or Missouri or A&M. Ole Miss was close and USCe lost focus at the end. Florida is not that good.

Getting beat early in the year the last two years hurts fan support. They start 4-4 and lose home openers on Labor Day weekend both years to USCe and Ole Miss.
Also sales were down because this year because our game is in Knoxville.

I'm not giving him anything. I've never been impressed with him, other than he's done what other Vandy coaches could never do; win games Vandy should win.

His first 2 seasons he got 6 and 9 wins by very favorable and fortunate scheduling; This year he got lucky by playing a very beat up UGA team and a beat up and given up Florida team.

Remember, he lost to Dooley; the same Dooley team that lost to Kentucky.

Yep I agree. USC deserves better.

I'll give Jimmy Frank credit for one thing. He has scheduled 4 cupcakes in out of conference play where all he needs is two wins in conference play. In years past, there were only 11 games played so you had to win at least 3 conference games. Vandy could only do that once every blue moon. With the 12 game schedule, you can schedule four cupcakes and beat 2 SEC teams and you're bowl eligible. He did what others should've been doing long before him. It's not that hard to do with an average team if you schedule right. And in reality, Vandy should've been doing it all along.

Still, Jimmy Frank and Vandy has yet to beat a top tier SEC team. They have beaten traditional SEC heavyweights in Auburn, UT, UGA and Fla, but when they beat them, they were low hanging fruit. UT and Auburn were in complete disarray last year. You think Vandy could beat Auburn this year? Um, no. Then they get a beat up UGA team that basically gift wrapped them the game in the 4th quarter and got a crippled Fla team that had just lost to their biggest rival the week before.

This was the scene 10 minutes before kickoff today. Yes, I'm sure Fla was fired up today.

Yep, the only thing really Franklin has done is, he hasn't pulled an SOV and lost to a team he wasn't supposed to. They've beaten everyone they should and lost to everyone they should have lost to. The Clay Travis' of the world will go ga-ga because of this, and because they beat UGA, UF, and us (last year at least) they'll amp it up more.

Don't get me wrong, at Vandy simply not pulling an SOV is huge. Bobby Johnson had 2 "good" seasons, yet both of them should have been even better. In 2005 they started 4-0, and ended 5-6. They did upset us, however they lost to a terrible MTSU and a terrible UK team, both at home. They should have been 7-4 with a bowl bid. In 2008, they started 5-0, and finished 1-6. They lost at a terrible Miss. St. team, at home to a terrible Duke team, and they couldn't beat us at their place even though at the time that was maybe our worst team in 30 years. So then, he should have finished 9-3 instead of 6-6.

So kudos for not shooting yourself in the foot Franklin.

I understand that the caption to the photo said that was the stands 10 minutes before kickoff. It is wrong. I watched the kickoff on TV and those stands were pretty much full. They did not empty until the beginning of the fourth quarter. They had less empty seats and the fans stayed longer than ours - and we were playing against a top 10 team. UT has more reason to be embarrassed than do the gators.

SOV?
Sounds like an interesting acronym to learn.
