She may be a good coach but there was usually turmoil on her teams between her and some of the players. She also has a reputation of not being very friendly. I was told it appeared that she didn't care as much about the program since she and her partner adopted a baby or at least gave off that vibe.
Vanderbilt averaged 2,906 in home attendance this season, the lowest in Balcombs tenure and smallest mark since 2000-01.
Vanderbilt's Melanie Balcomb out as women's basketball coach
Just saw a tweet where it is rumored that Mike Neighbors is interviewing for the Vandy job. He just took a short handed Washington team to the Final Four. Seems to be a good coach.
I would think they would go with a head coach with experience but Ivy would be a change of pace and they just may do it. You cannot tell what AD Williams will do and she is eye candy.
Look likes in state recruiting wars will be turned up a notch if Vandy lands Ivey as their new coach.
Which teams would be fighting in this war? Chassity Carter has already committed to Vanderbilt. Crystal Dangerfield is going to UConn. Nina Davis plays for Baylor. If Vanderbilt continues to compete against UConn and Baylor for the most talented high school players from the state of Tennessee, would it really be considered an "in-state" recruiting war?
To some a Vanderbilt education is hard to pass up.
It was announced to the Players this morning.
Niele Ivey HC[/QUOTE
I could be wrong but I see a comparison coming with Holly v. Ivey, Dawn Staley, Joni Crenshaw-Taylor similar to what happened with Fulmer v. Richt, Meyer, Saban in football.
Old, tired, and sort of bland vs. young, new and exciting.
If this is true it may be a problem for us on the recruiting trail locally, Ivey has done a great job recruiting (responsible for Peters, McBride, Loyd, Diggins all WNBA players) as well as Lindsay Allen, Brianna Turner, and the 2 young ladies they have coming in this year. We have to lock up the local talent asap!
