Vandy beat both Basketball teams by 1 point in Nashville

I hate it but crazy coincidence.
Both games were rather similar in that we were getting called for more fouls and less trips to the foul line. Both teams dug a hole they could not get out of in the end. Vols got down by 16 and Lady vols down by 11 both proved to much to overcome.

Actually the Lady Vols dug themselves out of the hole and led by 5 with 2:55 left in the game. Still led by 5 with 2:05 left in the game. Still led by 3 with 45 seconds left in the game! However, due to ineptitude or a lack of desire, they could not defend correctly nor rebound successfully down the stretch to secure a very important road win despite their superior talent against a much more motivated and prepared Vandy team.

Offensive fouls should have erased Vandy's last two scoring possessions.
Should have, I just wish the women had better refs it gets frustrating watching some of these games. The SEC men overall have good refs, but they are a few you try to dodge and a few that want to be the center of attention.

Ineptitude or lack of desire? Really....you think the players have a lack of desire to win? That is absurd.
The last rebound was a timing thing....the LV jumped for the ball and it bounced on the rim one last time.....

Definitely. Hard to account for that last bounce. Even if you’ve watched the replay thirty times…

The bounce didn’t fool the freshman Blakes. She sprinted from the FT line around a non-box out and tracked the ball. She hunted the ball and never gave up on the play. Our players gawked. You have to assure that you do not give up 2 chances for the other team to beat you there.

These are things coaches have to discuss as possible actions to watch out for during the huddle before the play. The last two seasons we've had instances when players were caught standing and gawking because they weren't mentally prepared for the ways it could play out, and nobody wanted to be the one to mess up, so nobody does anything.

The coach needs to tell players it's much better to go into a final play anticipating and reacting as best they can with as much confidence as they can in those moments, because losing while being paralyzed with fear of making a mistake while the aggressor swoops in and DOES do something, is the worst kind of loss to take.

My hope is that the staff will begin to set aside some practice time EVERY. FREAKING. DAY. from here on out to present different end-game scenarios and plans to address them so that we never suffer from end-game paralysis ever again. If ya have to fall, go down fighting, not watching it happen.

Teams as a whole need to develop that killer instinct among themselves. Never let up, play the way that got you the lead, etc. Playing to win, not playing to avoid losing. Not wanting to be the "one" who fouls or does something wrong often ensures that you do something wrong like fail to box out, don't stop the ball, etc.

Tough losses when all were so close. I'm still optimistic and supportive of this team still finding its greatness.

Go Lady Vols.
