From the scoop Dec 01 :

Vanderbilt: Our sources tell us that former Tennessee head coach Phil Fulmer is definitely in the mix. We were told that Fulmer spoke at length yesterday with Vanderbilt administrators.

This situation and this thread are about to get interesting. I'm all for it, although I don't want Fulmer to gain any AD experience that might give him something to push off of to get to UT's AD position one day.

Only experience he could get like that at Vandy is how to run an intramural department.

But seriously, anything to keep him out of the AD discussion for UT. That would be horrible.

Fulmer as UTAD would make UTGibbs and Mike West happy. Not sure if they are the same person.

I think he could actually be a good fit for Vanderbilt.

I would say he should take the job and give a lot of money to a competent DC and a competent OC who can prepare the team to play the option.

Fulmer coaching option football at Vanderbilt and recruiting the players to play it well would result in 7 or 8 wins a year.

New report from Scoop:

Vanderbilt: Here's the situation, we've been told that 6-8 interviews have been setup. We have learned that Phil Fulmer is not interested in the job despite an earlier report. We'll have more information a little bit later

Well there goes that.

Phillip Fulmer seems to be uninterested in a lot of things :shakehead:

Was really hoping Phil would take the Vandy job. Even though things here under him ended very badly I still like Fulmer. Now with that said I don't want him as our AD but I think Vandy would be a good fit for him.

What is his problem? He's like cousin Eddie, “holding out for that management position” that perfect job that he has no chance of getting. Phil, take the job from one of the few schools that even acknowledge your existence while you can.

Rant over.

He thinks he's above jobs like Vandy.

Translation: Vanderbilt isn't interested in Fulmer, so Fulmer is going to say he's not interested in Vanderbilt to save face.

The only thing that would be a good fit for Fulmer is a 58 x 34 pair of pants.

hopefully everyone will heed this warning. I continue to make this statement.

Phillip Fulmer is not going to be interested in any SEC job that puts him in a position of coaching against his school, The University of Tennessee. He has NO INTEREST whatsoever of being in that position.

so for the next rumor of "some SEC school" that is the position. He will be the athletic director at Tennessee long before being the HC at another SEC school.

That's the way I take it.

Why would he talk to them yesterday if he was not interested ?

how about if they consulted him on possible coaches to look at??

I'm sure Hamilton discussed Dooley with Saban... schools call others about potential prospects all the time...

Larry Fulmer does not own UT, so it is hard to know how it is "his school." He did win a national championship, he did play there. He has more of a connection to it than many other people do, but "working like heck" and having a slighly above average IQ does not qualify someone to be AD.

You could ask Dooley how happy he is with the talent Fulmer left him.

You may be right but the report said he was definitely in the mix for the coaching job and he spoke at length with the Vandy administrators.

Was it not reported last year that Saban recommended Dooley to Hamiliton ?
