Vandy is an Elite 8 Team

They have all the pieces and more experience than just about anybody.

Tinsley (Sr.) 31 mpg (minutes per game)
Jenkins (Jr.) 30 mpg
Ezili (Sr.) 31 mpg
Talyor (Sr.) 31 mpg
Gouldbourne (Sr.) 31 mpg
Tchiengang (Sr.) 30 mpg

I hope Murray State knocks Vandy out again like they did a couple years ago.:eek:lol::eek:lol:

I remember posting this last year, but what the heck: how in the world do people continue to trick themselves into thinking Vandy won't lose in the first round to a mid-major again?

Im sorry for the OP. Everybody in here is completely biased and not realizing Vandy is a good team and does have a chance at getting to the Elite 8 depending on the draw.

Good luck with that. I'll stick to the tried-and-true strategy of picking the mid-major over Vanderbilt (it won't take me even half a second to do that if they draw someone like Long Beach State).

I'm not saying they wont lose in the first round, but don't be surprised if they sneak into the sweet 16. I hate Vandy as much as the next guy, but they can get hot easily and quickly change the game with a few threes. The senior leadership helps a lot as well.

LOL Talk about it all you want to, now....

I got some substantive responses -- for which I'm grateful.

When UT plays Vandy Saturday, whatever the outcome, this thread will be back on the Basketball Forum by Sunday morning and very hot.

Enjoy your linear world.

I agree. Same people bashing him are ones that would prob chant "overrated"

"Overrated" is the correct term. Pre-season top 10 was ridiculous. I laughed when I saw them there pre-season and I turned out correct. But they are dangerous if they shoot the ball well. They are capable of 10 threes a game easily and Festus is a beast down low.

Festus sure looked beastly on Saturday...

I understand they have a chance to go deep, and that's the beauty of the NCAA Tournament: everyone has a chance. But I don't see that chance being very high, which is why I posted in disagreement with the OP's stance.

They never make it far, you can forget about them making it even to the sweet 16, they always choke. (And their coach whines like a b**** too)

They may make it who knows who cares...Not a problem with an opinion or two. Did not need to be posted in the Vols Basketball forum. Thread was moved I am ok with it.

Vandy is always an Elite 8 team but they have a grade school coach. You do the math.

I agree with that. I see them as maybe a Sweet 16 team. Making the Elite 8 would involve a lucky draw and hot shooting. While it is possible, they aren't that good.

I don't harbor the disdain for Vandy that many UT fans have.

If you look at them objectively, they've got great potential.

I for one plan to load up on them in 1st and 2nd NCAA rounds.

I hate Vandy for one reason: their fans. There are only a few of them, but they run their mouths like they have a million. I have yet to meet a Vandy fan who was not a pompous, arrogant, stuck-up prick.

Stallings has already won 5 NCAA tournament games in only 13 seasons at Vandy. There is every reason to believe this senior laden team will at least make the elite 8.

I found this interesting from ESPN's Giant Killers blog. They have Vandy as the second-most likely team to lose to a mid-major (behind Gonzaga).

Vanderbilt Commodores (49.9)

I swear, we've got nothing against the Commodores, we really don't. It's just that season after season, Kevin Stallings puts together big, sharpshooting teams designed to play well enough in the SEC that Vandy makes the NCAA tournament. Season after season, the strategy works -- but our model notices the Commodores' problems with turnovers and rebounding, and predicts early-round trouble. And season after season, Vanderbilt obliges -- with crushing losses to Siena in 2008, Murray State in 2010 and Richmond in 2011. All the key players are back this season, and the results are looking mighty similar.

Key stats: The Commodores turn the ball over on 20.4 percent of possessions (ranking 174th in the NCAA), partly because they allow steals on 11 percent of possessions (290th). They force turnovers on just 19.2 percent of opponent possessions (231st), allow opponents to grab offensive rebounds on 32.8 of missed shots (204th), and surrender blocks on 11.4 percent of shots (308th).
