How sad! He had a ton of talent and I understand that he was also a great person. Prayers to his family and Vandy baseball.

Awful. Hope his parents find the comfort that they need. That being said as a parent that would be hardest thing to achieve.

Very sad and unfortunate. It's moments when everyone comes together regardless of rivalries and hatred toward another school. Thoughts and prayers for the kids family and teammates.

Really terrible based on the details from ESPN:

Sheriff's spokesman Edward Knott said Everett had come to the lake to fish with two teammates and two other people, and all four said Everett was attempting to swim from the west side of Fire Lake Bridge to the east side.

The sheriff's report said Everett made it halfway when he began asking for help, but all four individuals said they thought Everett was "just joking around" because he did not seem to be in distress.

"One person did enter the water and pulled Everett several feet but stated that he is not a good swimmer and was struggling to stay afloat," the report said. "He stated that Everett did not seem to be struggling. The friend stated that he let go of Everett and swam back to shore still thinking Everett was 'joking.' He stated that when he looked back, Everett had gone under and did not re-surface."

There is talk about them not playing but I don't see how with it being an NCAA game they can't

Tough deal no doubt

Terrible story.

I had just read an article a few days ago about how drowning victims in real life are almost never as they are depicted in TV shows and movies. Most victims don't show signs of distress or splash around or even call for help.

I really hope the guy that let him go gets some help, because he's going to have some enormous emotional baggage for likely the rest of his life.

Prayers and peace for that family. No words.

As far as drowning goes, I agree in my own case. Went out in a yellow flag situation in Pensacola @ 5-6 years ago to try and rescue someone. They ended up brought to shore while I got trapped in a rip current. I made a few hand motions to shore and tried to yell, but I was gassed. Finally resigned to the fact that it was over, I kind of chilled taking breaths when I could get above the waves. Surreal b/c I just calmly started rolling through thoughts @ my relationship with God, my wife and children and considering how they would be affected and go on etc.

Thankfully, I got up enough for air again and there lays a guy on a surfboard saying "man, do you need help?". I think I walked on water the 3 yards to his board and he took me in to shore the 50 yards or so.

But, yes, I was calmly floating / trying to tread water with the last of my energy until the end came. Powerless against the waves. It was like no energy was left to fight.

May God bless that family and his friends. Saddening.

Terrible news.

I actually have seen a safety video about drowning. It said the same thing though. Most times you won't even know.

This is truly sad, my son played travel ball with and against Donnie. He was always a good kid and parents were extremely nice. My heart and prayers go out to the family
