Additionally, if everyone here would take a second and familiarize themselves with the following, who knows, maybe out of this tragedy someone's loved one might be saved in the future:

Just too much for the team to manage, too soon. They were utterly exhausted and Tim was among the worst. He said the team didn't get to bed until after 3:00 am and it certainly showed midway through both games.
Apparently there were fans who arrived at the stadium who didn't know and broke down sobbing. Heavy awful weekend, and I think most are relieved they lost both games.
Moral of the story... If someone is pretending to be drowning, pull them to safety anyway and let them finish their joke. Then you can knock them out for being an azzhole if they were joking.
Prayers and peace for that family. No words.
As far as drowning goes, I agree in my own case. Went out in a yellow flag situation in Pensacola @ 5-6 years ago to try and rescue someone. They ended up brought to shore while I got trapped in a rip current. I made a few hand motions to shore and tried to yell, but I was gassed. Finally resigned to the fact that it was over, I kind of chilled taking breaths when I could get above the waves. Surreal b/c I just calmly started rolling through thoughts @ my relationship with God, my wife and children and considering how they would be affected and go on etc.
Thankfully, I got up enough for air again and there lays a guy on a surfboard saying "man, do you need help?". I think I walked on water the 3 yards to his board and he took me in to shore the 50 yards or so.
But, yes, I was calmly floating / trying to tread water with the last of my energy until the end came. Powerless against the waves. It was like no energy was left to fight.
May God bless that family and his friends. Saddening.
Similar experience to mine. I was just going down, pushing off the bottom to get a breath. Couldn't make any progress toward shallow water, getting pummeled by the waves. Adrenaline was wearing off and I was losing the battle. I yelled as much as I could muster but the surf was so loud it was useless.
I finally saw a guy with a huge float a little closer in and he saw what was going on and he was able to push the float to me. This was the effects of a hurricane spinning off the east coast of central FL. It took probably 30 min for my heart rate and respiration to return to normal. Frightening experience.
Allegedly you can swim parallel to shore and escape a rip current.
