Vandy recruiting

Yes, they do and if I'm not mistaken they beat us the last time we played...:cray:

Still embarrassed about that one. Final nail in CPF's coffin.

The final nail came the week before. That loss was just salt in the wound.

Hey now, let's be real careful about making fun of other schools' ooc schedules. Shhhh - if we're real quiet about it, maybe no one will notice. Those are pretty expensive tickets for the schizz they stickin in front of us this year.

Of course it's expensive. Always will be I'm afraid.

C'mon, man - Montana, Cincinnati, Buffalo and MTSU???? That is absolutely embarrassing for this program.

Not really the point of this thread, but I'll add that Vandy's OOC schedule is Elon, UConn, Army, and Wake. Their slate is tougher than ours, IMO.

Not that it really matters but with a 12 game schedule, the ability to cream puff their OC games, and Kensucky and Good Ole Miss on the schedule just one mild upset every year would keep Vandy at 7 wins annually...Not so tough to do if they would at least CONSIDER spending some money to upgrade the facilities...JMO

Jumping over two state schools every year is a lot to ask given Vandy's position.

Also, during the past decade or so, the Dores have laid down turf at Dudley field, renovated Memorial, and completely renovated McGugin. They have spent money to update facilities. They simply started way behind, and they will never build cathedrals to college athletics like almost everybody else in the SEC.

Keep? Really?

They are 1-15 in the conference the last two years. They have had 1 winning season since 1982. That simple formula seems to be pretty hard to work.

Ok, MAKE them competitive.

I know their records, I have followed them since the mid 80s when a kid who played at a school I coached at (editted so Im not pretending to have anything to do with this kid being "somebody")

I just think they have stepped the recruiting game up a notch and if they can coach these kids up a bit, they are a school that can hold the 7 win line much like Northwestern.

It was a huge jump for Northwestern also, they used to be a much worse team than vandy is now. But good coaching, and some kids who decided they wanted to turn a program around, has turned them into a consistent winner. (not a consistent championship contender, but I team you have to gameplan for. And that wasnt always the case)

Just a few hours down south you have GA which is LOADED every year.

Last year one of the top LB's in the country decided to leave the state to go get a Stanford education. We wanted him at UGA but I can't blame him at all for his decision.

Vandy can get kids like Vaughters to look at them seriously with a little more excitement around their football team.

USCw fans had the same attitude towards Stanford until Harbaugh and his boys hung 50 on them at home.

They also had the best QB in the country.

They have been to 1 bowl game in the last quarter century. What makes u think they will regularly win 7? No way that happens unless there ooc schedule becomes even more of a joke than it is now. I don't think Vandy can win 6 on a regular basis, let alone 7. If Franklin is so good like everyone thinks, why is Vandy his first chance to be a head man. Laughable post is laughable.

Northwestern.

Laugh all you want. If Northwestern can do it, Vandy can do it. Vandy has much more to attract a kid to than Northwestern.

I will use Chicago as a reference because if I just use Evanston Indiana, this would not even be close:

Nashville -v- Chicago (even)
Nashville weather -v- Chicago weather (Vandy)
Nashville Coeds -v Chicago Coeds (Vandy)
vandy ed -v- Northwestern ed (even - depends on program)
SEC -v- Big Ten (most would want to play in SEC)
Vandy Tradition -v- NU Tradition (NU)
Vandy facilities -v- NU facilities (???)

There has been a shift in the recruiting strategy at Vandy. I dont know exactly what it is, but they are showing up FAR more often on the higher caliber players offer lists. It is a SLOW process, but if they can get a couple of the top notch local guys to stay home, they can start to compete. AND, with some good coaching, yes they can win 7 consistently.

I didnt say it would be easy. I didnt say it would be immediate. But if Northfreakingwestern can do it, Vandy sure can.

For the record: I was born and raised in Lansing MI. I watched Charlie Baggett beat a #1 ranked Woody Hayes team in what was one of the greatest games I have ever seen. I have followed Big Ten and SEC football all my life. Northwestern has been the suckiest suck that ever sucked, and has come back to win conference championships, rose bowls, etc. It can be done.

(I will wait for the big ten bashing, but that will not exactly be fair when it happens)

I don't know what they have stepped up in recruiting. Aside from a few random posts on this board, I don't know anything about Vandy's recruiting. I know that "holding" the 7 win line is something nobody has ever been able to do. Of the 12 different guys that have tried since 1955, they've only been able to meet that threshold 3 times.

I'd also disagree that anybody in a BCS conference, including Northwestern, has ever been "much worse" than the teams Vandy has fielded over the past two seasons.

The days of Vandy continually winning 6 games a year will never happen. Let alone 7.

Yep. Playing Florida, Georgia. Cocks, Vols, UK and LSU, Ole Mess etc... Most every year is brutal. They have to hope the other teams have down years. I think they play Ohio St next year.

Even with teams having down years, 9 times out of 10 Vandy still loses. See UT, bama, etc.

Vandy's problem with recruiting has always been getting guys admitted to the school. Maybe the eggheads will do for Franklin what they've been unwilling to do for any other head coach? I'm not going to believe it until I see it though.

I've lived in Nashville and it's suburbs for almost four decades and I while I adore my hometown I don't see how it comes close to comparing with Chicago in terms of what each city offers.
