Vandy? What is the goal?

Why would you go to Vanderbilt when for the same money you can go to Ivy League Schools Cornell,Dartmouth or Brown?
Honor of playing D1 football in the SEC. Great education in a great city. Huge connections.

Vanderbilt has a lot a great things going for it. Honestly, if the Athletic Department would do what Duke and Stanford has done, they could be a 6-7 win team on an annual basis. NIL money is available in Nashville…..if they look.

They did $12 million in upgrades to their baseball facilities just a few years ago. Yea. They don’t care
They have an endowment is more than 6 billion.

They have been recieving more than 40 million dollars from the SEC TV deal alone for more than a decade. Forgive me if 3% of that rounded down total doesnt seem like a real investment to me. especially for a national title winning team that is apparently their number 1 sport.

And I promise you that 12 million they spent wasnt generated by their baseball team.

And oh yeah, they just made a 300 million dollar commitment to all their sports. So even of their own spending baseball only draws 4% of their financial commitments.

I say again. Vandy doesnt really care. They will do the bare minimum to keep their sports alive

Imagine going on a recruiting visit. Yeah we schedule some weak out of conference games here so we can get to 4 or 5 wins. Our goal here is to pretend to play football and be academic scholars. We will celebrate our math skills and compete in math puzzles while drankin coffee at the trendy spots in Nashville! Anchor Down

The irony of it all is that the biggest hurdle to recruiting FB players to VU is that the academics are really all they have to offer. No player that aspires to play in the NFL is going to visit there. The only ones that will are those that actually value an education from Vandy. That makes their pool a lot smaller.

IMO Vandy should focus on trying to have a good basketball program. There isn't any good reason why they couldn't field a competitive team most years. It's going to be hard for them to compete in a sport that requires a large roster unless there's a loophole for them to exploit like they do in baseball.

They do have 16 guys on NFL rosters, so it’s not like the NFL won’t find ya

Sure, but those probably aren't guys who only went to college to play football and audition for the NFL. They just turned out to be good enough to make the cut. The guys that have an academic standard of "remain eligible" typically don't go to Vandy.

A good number of those guys are Franklin players. And it was pretty clear they werent the typical Vandy player.

Value for the opposing team. They really don’t contribute to eyeballs (dollars). Which is what the league offices care about.

This isnt completely true, while Tennessee may be the premiere school of the state it doesn’t control TV markets and Vandy gives the SEC a hold on the Nashville tv market.
Plus it’s not like that are garbage at all sports, baseball and basketball are good, it’s just football and I think the SEC is willing to deal with a bad football team for the Nashville media market and also the boost to the conferences overall academics

With the right people in the right places they could use that to become what Notre Dame is and have the benefit of not having to play in northern Indiana with lake effect snow in nov/dec

There are no real numbers in Nashville watching TV for Vandy, they are watching Tennessee.

And would you rather have Vandy or UNC? I promise UNC has a following that dwarfs Vandy. Numbers are dollars, that is the bottom line that matters.
