No bowl since 1982, they're dragged across the finish line and their reward? They're headed across the street to the Music City Bowl. :post-4-1090547912::post-4-1090547912::post-4-1090547912:
Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

Here's the link

It is a bit difficult to belittle Vandy for reaching a bowl game for the first time in a quarter century while UT is sitting at home making up off-color jokes about the wife of our new head coach.

My guess is that Vanderbilt is perfectly happy spending the holidays playing football at home in Nashville rather than traveling to wounderous Memphis, Birmingham, or Shreveport, which were the only other logical alternatives.

As much as I can't stand Vandy...I can't laugh that they are going to a bowl game, regardless, where it is! The thing is though it won't bring in near as much revenue to Nashville as the game last year did!

Well I don't have a problem laughing at them. If they would have beat us they would have got a better bid but Eric Berry Donkey Punched them.

Well said!
Why belittle your step brother for doing something you didn't do. I'm happy for Vandy and hope they win WHATEVER bowl game they play in. Any UT fan that pokes fun of Vandy this year needs to look in the mirror. Go Dores (for 1 week)

Perfect for Vandy IMO. Lot's of Alums will travel to this one for a Homecoming. They will have a better crowd here than in Memphis. Plus they don't have to play in a crappy stadium in a crappy city.

Vandy is a sec team.
They are playing a non-conference foe.
If you can't root Vandy root for the SEC:dance2:

It's interesting that UK thinks going to a lesser bowl against a lesser opponent is better than a 3rd straight trip to their December home in Nashville.

Plus, on Jan. 2, the Liberty Bowl will have little TV interest beyond the fans of the participants, because several much bigger games will have already been played. That would be like scheduling the NIT Final Four after the NCAA Final Four.

Congrats to the SEC - Every team has made at least one bowl game last year or this year.

Yeah, KY picking Liberty over Music City is crazy. I can understand wanting to go somewhere different, but picking a bowl game that is a lower bowl is kinda baffling. They will play the winner of Tulsa and who??

The Liberty Bowl is equivalent to the Music City, not lesser. The order of selection from the conference is the same; the payout is the same; I would suggest playing the winner of CUSA is not inferior to playing the 5th selection from the ACC.

No they wouldn't have. They were bound for Shreveport, Nashville, Birmingham or Memphis from the moment they became bowl eligible. One more win would not have changed their position.

Interesting. I'll stop calling it a lesser game.
I still think the ACC opponent makes for a more appealing matchup though.

We're not in a bowl ourselves, but we did close the door on any chance that either of these teams had at going to Atlanta.

Actually, the Liberty Bowl payout is projected to be insignificantly higher:

2008 College Football Bowl Schedule: 2008-2009 NCAA Football Bowl TV & Game Schedule

Although there was a strict ranking system in place for a while, it is more accurate to think of the conference bowl tie-ins as tiered under the current format. The BCS is obviously on top, followed by the CapOne, then the Chicken, Outback, and Cotton tier, then the 3 crap bowls, and the Pizza hoping there is an extra SEC team eligible.

that is what I was referring to as well. CUSA is a joke IMO and Memphis isn't anything to scream about...unless ur screaming cause ur being robbed

Liberty bowl is a better payoff.

Besides, we've won 2 straight MCBs. Time to do something different.

Every chance I get to rag Vandy, I'll take it. I can take the crude behavior from idiot fans, all schools have some, but the level of arrogance from Buffy, Poindexter and the other Vandy fans in intolerable for me.

Enjoy your bowl game across the street sweethearts. Maybe you can do it again in thirty years.

No it's not. So we had a bad year. No bowl. Look at Vandy's situation. It's funny, now point and laugh. You won't have the chance to laugh at Vandy for their bowl destination very often.
