Rick Stocksill (sp?) turned down a thriving ECU program which set up Holtz for a great gig. I don't see why CRS would go to Vandy where failure is probable when he seems to be enjoying his place there at MTSU. He's waiting for a good job to come along, I think. Vanderbilt might be in the SEC, but it's not what I'd call a good job.

Agreed. CRS will be in line for jobs bigger and better than Vandy at the end of this season provided he does what is expected with MTSU this season. CRS taking the Vandy job would be a short step foward for this season but a major jump backwards for the long term and I mean long term being as early as 2011 season.

I'm not advocating for Stockstill either way but the reason he stayed at MTSU was to see if there was a higher profile job to be had down the road. ECU is about par with MTSU and he has a good thing going at MTSU right now.

Vanderbilt would certainly be a higher profile job.

That's debatable. Vandy is in a higher profile conference right now, but MTSU is moving up the ladder to where they are more respected as a football school than Vandy and at least on par with Vandy if not better when looking at coaching positions. Stockstill will jump over the Vandy type jobs if he has the season at MTSU which is expected this year.

I don't see that a guy like Stockstill could expect much better than a bottom dweller program in a major conference. No contender is going to take a chance on him unless he proves he can compete with the big boys. It can be argued that Vandy is one of the worst possible scenarios for an up and coming head coach but a bottom dweller is about the best chance he has in a major conference.

Not only did Quarels play for Bobby Johnson at Furman, but he's proven to be an excellent recruiter at Maryville.

That, and he's used to coaching high school level talent. He would have to coach-up the Vandy players as he is used to having better talent than he would find at Vandy.

No doubt after showing no interest in the TN job, he would jump at the opportunity to coach at Vandy. Many of the posts here are extremely realistic.:eek:hmy:

Yeah, it's not like a school like Tennessee would hire a coach with a 17-20 record overall and a 12-12 record in the WAC

CRS has proven he can hang with the big boys. He has beaten Vandy several times, almost beat Mississippi state, and also beat Maryland.

Being from mid-TN, I'm sure you've heard local sports media hyping up MTSU this year. If Stocksill delivers, he will probably have much better offers than Vandy in about 6 months.
