After thinking about it I’m convinced our playcalling (all the screens etc) has been vanilla bc our staff may lack faith that our line can block long enough for routes to develop. Sure Milton isn’t Hooker, he’s not great but I feel like our offensive line may be the biggest issue on that side of the ball and playing Nico will not solve that.

Agree 100%. O line play is definitely affecting our playcalling.

That's been kind of obvious. Everyone just wants to keep shouting the coaches don't trust Milton for some reason. That or Heupel forgot how to call plays all of a sudden after top 10 offenses and Heisman winners his whole career. The screens are because we have about 1.5 seconds to be rid of the ball or it's a sack

Nailed this on the head, but most people just think its Joe. Offensive line is absolutely terrible.

Agree completely. I don't think Joe is capable of running this offense to the efficiency that Hooker did, but even Hook had a senior-laden OL that helped him escape a LOT of potentially bad plays. That said, I also think that the expectations of this season based on last season's successes have jaded a lot of peoples' ability to be objective. We are NOT the team we were last year, and this OL will be better but this year is gonna hurt getting there. In the meantime, they really need to get Cooper back healthy, and work a a crap ton of fundamentals. Nico is not a magic wand.

Well if it’s true doctors have cleared Mays to play but doctors advised to what till October, exactly when in October. We play South Carolina September 30 the last day of the month. Or do they want him to wait till Halloween. If it’s the first of October I know I wouldn’t be missing the South Carolina game. Doctors are almost always ultra cautious. Why clear him and then advise him to wait. I don’t think 1 day is going to make a difference but I am not a doctor.

SCJr had a horrible performance out of their line in the UNC game. They did something to fix it, because they did much better against UGA.
Maybe the UT coaches can figure something out 🤷‍♂️
Other teams have figured it out before we need to figure it out now. You got to want to fight, the coaches have to demand hard effort.

Milton just isn’t the kind of player that can carry a team on his back, if the o-line can’t give him time in the pocket, our offense will continue to look this way all season.

I said this in another thread earlier today, have been wondering since the Austin pray game, but definitely feel this is the case after the Florida game

Our O-Line problems are correctable. If Mays can play center and we get Mincey back that will help. A lot of our O-Line problem stems at the center position. We don’t have a quality backup or one hasn’t emerged yet. We lost 2 good lineman but we wouldn’t be struggling as much if Mays was at center and healthy. Hopefully he will go against South Carolina, doctors reportedly cleared him but advised him to wait till October. We play South Carolina on the last day of month. We will see. GBO

OP is right, IMHO. Milton played better against Clemson and Vandy last season with the benefit of last year's offensive line but basically the same receivers that are playing this season. Now, with this year's line, he is less effective.

Milton played well last year in final 2 games, better offensive line and receivers actually getting open!

Finally a post that is seeing the real picture instead of the "Milton is the problem" 24/7 crew.

The Offensive Line looks more like the problem right now.

Yeah, Joe has been frustrating at times this year, but as has been mentioned , I think that the O-Line has dropped off a bit and hasn't helped him much. Without a capable O-line,even the best QBS look below average. The offense has looked sluggish as a result, and looked like it with the slow development of play calling. It was at a snails pace.

People don’t want to admit it but this mainly falls on Pruitts incompetence. Just look at the recruiting during the Pruitt tenure. He recruited a total 10 OL in 3 years. Only 2 in 2021. How many of those 10 have done anything? 3. Cooper, Spraggs and Crawford. And let’s be real. Were those guys stud OL? No. Cooper had a good offer list. Spraggs list was weak. Crawfords list was weak.

Joe definitely needs to play better. But look who we are putting in the OL to protect him. Ollie Lane? Dayne Davis? I mean lol. Mincey suspended. But we have seen that Joe can play at a high level. He did it with a good OL. There is a reason why so many guys like Cain, Crompton and many others keep saying how bad the OL is.
