Venezuela's Triumphant Socialist Paradise

U.S. Sanctions Venezuelan Companies and Government Officials

The U.S. Treasury Department on Tuesday announced sanctions against four current and former Venezuelan government officials, plus several other individuals and entities connected with Rafael Alfredo Sarria Diaz, a businessman accused of operating as the front man for Socialist Party official Diosdado Cabello.

Cabello, along with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, has been accused of running one of the largest cocaine trafficking operations in the Western Hemisphere, the Cartel de los Soles. The U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned Cabello and his associates in May for exploiting his office to “engage in narcotics trafficking, money laundering, embezzlement of state funds, and other corrupt activities.”

The sanctions announced on Tuesday target key individuals and business entities linked to Cabello through Diaz. The entities include Quiana Trading LImited, AVERUCA C.A., and Panazeate SL.

Treasury officials said they have identified properties in the United States owned by Diaz and his corporate network that will be locked down, including his Gulfstream 200 private jet.

The Treasury Department also sanctioned First Lady and Former Attorney General Cilia Adela Flores de Maduro, Executive Vice President Delcy Eloina Rodriguez Gomez, Minister of Communication and Information Jorge Jesus Rodriguez Gomez, and Minister of Defense Vladimir Padrino Lopez.

“Today’s action shows that the United States will continue to take concrete and forceful action against those who are involved in the destruction of democracy in Venezuela as well as those who are enriching themselves at the expense of the Venezuelan people,” the Treasury Department said on Tuesday.

“The United States will continue to use the full weight of American economic and diplomatic power to help create the conditions for the restoration of democracy for the Venezuelan people,” the Treasury statement added.

yeah they are going to need a much longer list if that is the measure for a sanction. like all of the politicians the world over.

Has anyone on this board advocated for a completely socialist country or have they been advocating for a combination of capitalism and socialism? Perhaps the answer doesn't lie in the extremes, but maybe there is a way that the richest country on earth can do a better job of taking care of it citizens.
Quite frankly that would mean getting rid of the squatters in government and starting over. That ugly little word nationalism. Letting states decide their fate.

Venezuela Declares Its Military ‘Fully Prepared’ for War with U.S.

Senior Venezuelan socialist official Diosdado Cabello claimed in an interview Sunday his country is “fully prepared” for a war with the United States.

Cabello, the leader of the regime’s illegal lawmaking body and a close ally of dictator Nicolás Maduro, claimed that the country’s Bolivarian National Armed Forces would remain loyal to Hugo Chávez’s socialist revolution should the U.S. or any other power try to topple the regime.

“The United States offers our military amnesty. If you rise up against Maduro, you will be forgiven. As if the military had something to be forgiven for. Is it wrong to love our country? To defend it?” he continued. “Our Armed Forces, I believe, are prepared to resist those attacks of the North American imperialism and of the European Union, because they have a great conscience.”

Obama's cross-gendered, pan-sexual division could destroy the Venezuelan military without breaking a fake fingernail.

bahahahahaha. some marine's on shore leave could take over that country. maybe we take the page out of Putin's book and just have our troops "volunteer" to be there on their own free time. you know, bringing their equipment, their squad, and all the command structure too.

Trump Amps Up Venezuelan Crackdown, Sanctions Gold Exports with executive order

President Trump is continuing to put pressure on the government of Venezuela’s leftist President Nicolas Maduro, introducing a new round of sanctions designed to further rattle the embattled South American country’s oil exports.

Trump’s National Security Adviser John Bolton revealed that the president signed an executive order on Thursday to prohibit anyone in the U.S. from doing business with entities and individuals involved with “corrupt and deceptive” gold dealings from Venezuela, declaring that the Maduro regime “has used this sector as a bastion to finance illicit activities, to fill its coffers, and to support criminal groups.”

Bolton made the revelations late last week while addressing a crowd of mostly Cuban-Americans and other Hispanics at the Freedom Tower in Miami, Florida – the place where Cuban refugees were embraced in the 1960s in the aftermath of Fidel Castro’s revolt.

The new sanctions only add to the already thick slate of restrictions – of which 70 Venezuelan individuals and entities, including the president and his wife, are banned from traveling to the U.S. or doing business with Americans or American companies.

The ailing nation this year turned to gold as a means of invigorating its fast-falling currency and moving away from oil dependency. Maduro declared war on illegal mining across the country, but his critics contend that the government continues to garner the rewards of the illicit gold trade.

I'm guessing we show them a truck filled with MREs and they would drop their guns and come running.

Wherein I learned that gasoline is about the only thing readily available there, basically free.

There's money to be made investing there whenever the existing government is replaced.

We should take the weapons from the gun buy back programs and airdrop them into Venezuela to the common people. Kinda like we did with French partisan units in WWII.
What good would that do? Most of them are non-functional paperweights that people "sold" to the US tax payer for much more than they're worth under the name "buy-back program".

no way that works out for them. can't be good to turn over your nations one real cash cow to a foreign power. I don't care if its Russia, the US, China, or Nepal getting control. not good.

I think Gaddafi did something similar in Libya. you turn it over to Russia, Russia comes in and defends their assets against rebels, and helps in other places in exchange for the assets. not sure what happened to the oil in Libya, they were trying to re-seize control at one point.

Agreed. They will come in just like Syria to protect that oil. All hell will then break loose.
