Keith Jackson HATED Steve Spurrier back in the day because Spurrier wouldn't kiss his ass like other coaches.

The 1995 Tennessee game when we scored 48 straight points, you woulda thought Jackson was ready to leave the booth and punch Spurrier in the ear.

"They'll remember that next year in Knoxville."
- Jackson after Chris Doering's TD to put us up 62-30

What you failed to mention is that Tennessee had already taken Peyton Manning out of the game and our backup Jermaine Copeland fumbled to give Florida the ball at the 20 to set up that TD. When the losing team (by 3 TD's or more) pulls their starting QB, it is customary for the winning team to follow suit but Spurrier put Wuerffel back in the game to throw that last TD to Doering...It was not a big deal and I was glad that Fulmer didn't complain about it but it was certainly not unreasonable for an announcer to question the sportsmanship of such a move...Note that Nebraska DID take Tommie Frazier out of the game after they had a similar lead in the Fiesta Bowl.

I never said Jackson or any UT fan wasn't justified in being pissed off, only that Jackson's hatred of Spurrier really came through in his call of that particular play.

I'll be honest, I can't stand to listen to either one. Having said that Danielson at least halfway knows what he is talking about. Vern needs to go ahead and hang it up IMO.

Verne's problem is that he's not very accurate with the play-by-play.

Completely agree. I wish I could perform my job as poorly and miraculously keep it for as long as he has done. He consistently calls out the wrong names of players. Apparently CBS does not have performance evaluations. I'm sure he's a sweet gentleman, but I would think the best conference on the planet deserves a better play by play duo on a prime time network.

Additionally, the legacy of Volnation threads where someone attempts to berate or belittle a person of whose name they cannot spell correctly continues in full force.

I didn't belittle or berate him. I said I didn't like him. I didn't call him names.. and I did drop the e in his name.. My apologies to VERNE.. Thanks for pointing that out.. I will do my best to never... ever.. ever.. misspell a word again in my life... You have inspired me with your grammatical awesomeness. :hi:

To be honest, my first reaction was "I can't stand him." BUT i think the main reason is because we are usually losing when he is the broadcaster so we catch all the negativity.

I'm sure you hated it when we everyone loved us in the 90s and early 2000s too. And I'm sure when other fans complained about it like you're doing, you probably laughed at them and told them to get over it.

Uh, and I am sure you love it when announcers show clear bias? I absolutely loathe announcers that do that kind of crap. They should try to be objective and not fixate on one team over the other regardless of who's got more points on the board.

It goes back to these TV idiots always trying to make a story out of the game. Verne isn't the only one that does it but he's certainly one of the worst. I mean how many damn times did we need to hear him fixate on one player? You could have made a drinking game out of how many times he mentioned Tim Tebow even in games not involving Florida. And, let's be honest, ESPN, for example, ought to be ashamed of how they fixated on Clowney during our game with USCe. It's the same thing really and it makes for a ****ty game experience.

What is with this guy...

He was having a love feast on Oregon when we played them, then with Bama.. much more of the same.

Can't stand him... Has he always been this way?
