Obviously, we are all justifiably pleased and proud of the 2014 class that Butch Jones and his staff signed. In the Sporting News 2014 College Football Yearbook, however, JC Shurburtt, the national recruiting director for 247 Sports, provides a powerful endorsement with this comparative observation: “Perhaps no class will impact a single program more than the vast, deep (No. 7 nationally) class Butch Jones attracted to Tennessee

Lofty praise...I like it and also strongly agree.

Obviously the quality was there, but you cannot ignore the quantity either. Just the sheer numbers (i.e., 33) accounts for almost 40% of the entire team (85 schollies). :good!:

Oh No. The dreaded 3* curse has risen again. We are doomed because we have 3* players. Our fans might as well go jump from a cliff.

I just had to throw that in, the star gazers probably haven't woke up yet. Most of those 3* (Rivals) are going to be really good players with several possible All-SEC type candidates. (hopefully)

Brick by brick the foundation for success is being laid. If Butch & Co. continue Tennessee's tradition of sending Volunteers to the NFL our program will attract top athletes year in year out.

That's high praise (in my best Andy Samberg/Nick Cage voice)

Agree this is the most significant class in a long time. And it should have been ranked considerable higher. The problem there is most services only take the top 17-20 kids and average them out. So we aren't getting credit for have an extra half of a class. Either way...We know how good of a class it was. And so will the rest of the sec soon

This! Just the improvement in quality of practices and the challenge the younger guys will give to the older guys cannot be discounted. Plus this is a giant improvement in the quality of depth we have.

33 is an unbelievable number of shollys to even have available!
If a football program is like a house, most coaches get hired to remodel a kitchen and bathroom, CBJ inherited a program like this:

I think Butch & Co. are great recruiters and, moreover, we would not have secured the 2014 class without their effort.

But the stars did align for this staff nicely and the experts fail to give enough credit where credit is due. The sweat equity and blood loyalty of former Tennessee players delivered to us some significant legacies at just the right moment. In turn, those commits, it would appear, out-recruited all of their counterparts' efforts for their respective teams.

Butch & Co. were, that is, dealt a pretty sweet hand given the circumstances. They must now consolidate on that luck. If they do, we might see another rise of our beloved program.

I honestly think the 2014 class is the best class we have taken since the mid 90s and has a chance to be the best class we've had. Tons of talent and character across the board.

The scary thing is that this 2015 class is starting to shape up to be another great one. If Butch can keep the momentum going, this could definitely be the best back-to-back recruiting effort we've seen at Tennessee.

I agree that the Legacy Class should get a ton of credit. I was worried that Butch would have a hard time w/o the bloodline boom this year, but so far he's pulled in some good ones.

If it all plays out the way it's lined up to and the way we all hope, we'll be watching the 2014 Legacy Class being chronicled on a 30 for 30 one day.
