Very high praise from The Sporting News for our 2014 recruiting class

If it all plays out the way it's lined up to and the way we all hope, we'll be watching the 2014 Legacy Class being chronicled on a 30 for 30 one day.

It will be called 30 for 30: Butch Please!

This class will change the course of the program. It will also be crowned national champions in 2017.

Wasnt Johnny Manziel a 3* coming out of highschool. I remember reading that somewhere

Yes. The other side of that coin includes the umpteen 3 star QBs you've never heard of and never will. If u are banking on all of UTs 3stars being like Manziel or Can Sutton then you will be dissapointed. There are a good number of 3-stars over there who haven't done anything at this point.

UT's short term success will hinge on those guys who were 4-star in one ranking and 3-star in another. Jashon Robertson for example. Do those guys end up as practice squad or potential game day contributors.

If they don't will you promise to ban yourself?

Just messin - for everyone's sake I hope you're right on all of your homerific predictions.

When you have a theory and you stick with that theory and if enough people get on board, it might become true.

Number 7? I highly doubt there are 6 more talented classes than ours.

The problem is that if there are, 4 or 5 of them are in our own conference. Imagine accompanying George Clooney, Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey and Adam Levine to a singles bar. It ain't gonna be easy.

One thing the recruiting services don't consider when ranking a class is the teams needs which are addressed by that class. Considering the needs, the 2014 class should certainly be higher than #7.

I hope we aren't Levine in that scenario

Nice to see the positive publicity. If Weatherd doesn't make it in this year can that spot be used on next years class?

I think Butch & Co. are great recruiters and, moreover, we would not have secured the 2014 class without their effort.

But the stars did align for this staff nicely and the experts fail to give enough credit where credit is due. The sweat equity and blood loyalty of former Tennessee players delivered to us some significant legacies at just the right moment. In turn, those commits, it would appear, out-recruited all of their counterparts' efforts for their respective teams.

Butch & Co. were, that is, dealt a pretty sweet hand given the circumstances. They must now consolidate on that luck. If they do, we might see another rise of our beloved program.

I shutter to think what this class would've looked like with Dooley still the head coach. We MIGHT have gotten 10 of those guys! It makes my stomach hurt to even think about that possibility

Obviously the quality was there, but you cannot ignore the quantity either. Just the sheer numbers (i.e., 33) accounts for almost 40% of the entire team (85 schollies). :good!:

Absolutely! What are the recruiting rankings based off of the top 20 players? Those other 13 recruits easily puts UT in the top three classes for quality and quantity combined.

Also, I think we are 14 for 14 on early enrollees. To the best of my knowledge they were all at least good with several standouts such as Wolf, Helm, Coleman Thomas, Mosley, VP, Malone, Hurd, JJohnson, etc.

Low hanging, low quality fruit:

Our sole Olineman would have been the Orlando kid with bad grades, a few serial killers/armed robbers, 7 one year JUCOs and some secondary guys bustin out with 4.7 40 yard dash times.
