Very interesting read about our coach!

I think Danny White will make sure he is being compensated more after the season. If weird things happen and big programs come tossing around big money I feel that CJH would bring it up with his boss before just taking the money and running.

I think because Kiffin ran away in the dark of night to go USC we always have more fear or some kind of betrayal than is rational. Not everyone is Kiffin.

I also think we need to do whatever is necessary to keep AD Danny White. VOL athletics is doing well with top 25 teams in a number of sports, not necessarily all because of White, but he has set goals and priorities for keeping UT on top in all athletic pursuits. Need to keep him happy too. GBO!!!

My prediction is we lose our OC this year and Danny White brings in Scott Frost. Frost left White and UCF on good terms and his offensive scheme is on par with CJH. Frost could definitely use a couple years of redemption before looking for another HC job. Thoughts?

I don't think you'd give a recent head coach the keys to that much of the team.

A coordinator is a powerful position with a significant degree of autonomy.

Leadership schisms come from bad decisions like this.

If Scott Frost joins the staff, I would think it would be in some off-field capacity. Like Assistant Head Coach for Analytics, put him in charge of the stable of analysts and graduate assistants who do the scout team prep and breaking down all the film.

Good point. I live in Central Florida and have been pretty plugged in at UCF. I just think that Frost and White have maintained a good relationship and White could do this as a favor to Frost. I guess the other half of me thinks that all we need in the OC spot is a warm body since CJH is pretty much the OC and play caller. Regardless, I think our current OC is gone by the end of the season.

I think in terms of play calling that's true, but Golesh is probably important for stuff we don't see as much behind the scenes and during the week. I definitely believe he is valuable, but that's the nature of college football. Good coordinators get job offers and you hate to see them go, but also good to see them succeed.

Heupel will be approached by schools with HC openings in the next few months, and likely already has (or at least his agent has). Other schools will offer him a raise to try to poach him from UT.

I expect White has already discussed another raise with Heupel to reward him, and to keep the poachers away. By “another raise”, I mean an addition to the raise announced in Sept. that was actually negotiated several months ago.

And let’s be sure White is being paid top dollar AD salary while we’re at it.

Ok, I will probably get slaughtered for this, but oh well...

How much money does one man need to be loyal to a team/university/fanbase? If I am reading correctly he is already a millionaire 5 times over. When I see him, I don't see dollar signs in his eyes. I see a genuine love for his players and the game of football. I don't begrudge him one cent of his salary, but I sure hope it's more than money that motivates him.
I don't disagree but this is a business. He's earned a huge raise. We have to lock him down or you can bet other school will.

Josh Heupel has fast-tracked Tennessee football. How he did it, and can he keep it up?

He has worked miracles, and the whole Vol nation loves and appreciates him!
I think his biggest strength is that he's real with his players and staff. Nothing fake about him and he's straight with everyone. He's also been there and done that and performed at the highest levels of college football. A heisman caliber QB vs a damned band member trying to pass himself off as a football coach? Plus he's a gifted play caller and has these kids believing because what he does really works. When you get the kids to trust you and believe in what you're doing, you're way, way ahead of the game. Plus these kids really like each other and this staff. Hate to use the terms chemistry and culture, but Heupel's got both going and in spades. Love the product. Love the way they represent the university and carry themselves. Best I've felt about this program and the direction it's headed in nearly 20 years.

You have to match his pay with other top coaches. Saban money? If he wins a natty, yes!

I am very happy with our coach so far, but I don’t want to prematurely start turning the keys to the city over to him. Just like the article says, can he keep it up? I think he is smart and I really want him to build something special here and genuinely want to be here. If he does that, then he will get paid well.[/QUOT

He has done a great job so for. but I think we need to see what he does with his recruits before jumping in too fast. like how many freshman abd sophomores are playing quality minutes now. He has proven he can coach players up but almost all of our stars I believe are Pruitts recruits. I could be wrong on that, if so I stand to be corrected.
