VH1 100 Greatest Artists Of All-Time

If Don Henley went on to have 2 multi-platinum albums (both 7 million +) and win 6 Grammy's he'd probably be on the list.

Are you trying to say that Timberlake deserves to be on this list?

I hope not, 2 albums, regardless of sales is not enough.

To be at 66 is just an absolute joke...

Nirvana at 14?

I'm not going to bother with the rest of this.

The most overrated band in the history of the world.

If he doesn't blow his brains out they are looked at completely differently.

Soundgarden doesn't make the list at all and they were by every way imaginable a much better band.

Same can be said about Pearl Jam/AIC.

This is a list made by artists, so they are probably looking at it from an influential standpoint. Biggie only had 2 albums, do you think he doesn't belong on the list (not to mention JT had like 3 or 4 albums with N' Sync that I'm sure all sold like crazy)?

His days with that crap boy band do not count, he is on there as a solo artist.

Now comparing the greatness and influence that Biggie had to Justin Timberlake is an all-time fail if I have ever seen one.

Why? I think it demonstrates his talent. Being in a boy band is an assurance that you'll have no solo career, but he overcame the stigma.

JT is the first (and only?) legitimate non-black R&B artist, ever. I'd say he's influential. He's behind Biggie on the list for a reason.

You're way too sensitive about this list.

Justin Timberlake being ranked above Rush/Pearl Jam/OutKast/Beastie Boys/Van Morrison/Tupac/N.W.A. and just about any other artist that is behind him is moronic.

I think the "artists" were polled who were their favorite, not who is the best.

There is a huge difference.

Carie Underwood's top 5 included George Michael at number one and Dolly Parton at number two.

You all missed that Sade was #50. How the hell does she even make the list let alone make it half-way up the list.

Wow Maddona is ahead of Pink Floyd. Also... Jay Z being in the top 50 is a little silly but whatever I guess.

I think The Velvet Underground is ahead of Johnny Cash (among others) only because of the Andy Warhol factor and because people like to say they like The Velvet Underground because it sounds cool (I'm looking at you, hipsters).

The only shocking thing to me about the list is that people actually care about it.

Was watching this the other day, got to number 66 and turned it off out of anger.

Supposedly they polled over 200 recording artists and this is the list they came up with.

VH1 100 Greatest Artists Of All Time - Stereogum

Unreal.

this is as much BS as that 100 greatest wrestlers list that was out a number of months ago. I have my doubts that any artists were consulted and that the list was compiled by a room full of 20-somethings scanning itunes and youtube playlists.

Nirvana at 14? Are you kidding? Don't get me wrong, I love Nirvana but there is no way they are ahead of these people: Queen, AC/DC, Van Halen (just to name a few).

The Velvet Underground set the stage for just about everything that came after. They never sold many records, but their influence is massive.
