Video Of 4 Vol QBs From Practice

I thought Dobbs had the best footwork of any of the 4, and his passes seemed sharper. Planting your feet and throwing off your back foot should be a given in a practice drill with no rush.

Be careful what you post. Suggesting that players actually work on things during a practice drill, that they should actually do in a game, is frowned upon by some in this thread.

Danny Parker, who shot the film for Scout, posted that Ferguson and Dobbs are both extremely thin kids..so it is probably a two man race for QB

Both Dobbs and Ferguson are extremely thin.

Worley and Peterman seem neck to neck. I like Worley's strength and his form is decent. Peterman seem to have a better step with a decent form.

Dobbs is a good third with his release and Ferguson is still raw.

You obviously don't know mechanics of a quarter back. When throwing a football you plant with your front leg

Never seen so may experts, particularly based on videos of skeleton drills. Incredible how bright VN posters are.

Worley seems to have a longer release than the rest good foot work.

Peterman rotates his body to throw over the top > which is probably is the accuracy issue but good foot work.

Dobbs really stands tall in the pocket, good foot work.

Ferguson reminds me as a fighter, seems to be rushing a bit which cause his foot work to be off.

What clearly stuck out to me, much to my disappointment, is that Worley is staring down his targets even more so than the true freshmen. It's even more obvious when you compare Worley to Peterman (just compare how quickly the head turns).

The reason it's disappointing is that there is absolutely no reason to stare down your receivers in practice... and it develops into a habit that carries forward into games.

Who said anything about a full scouting report... again, other than you. I simply made a factual observation about what I saw, and then stated a preference... that is all.

Not sure why you're trying to make it more than that.

Actually, for the record, that not all you stated. You stated that the act of "staring down" receivers in 1x1 drills, with no other receivers, and no defense to stare off, will develop into the habit of staring down receivers in a game.

I think that's the part that is getting you hammered.

Yep, not a coach. But on the last step of your drop, plant your back foot - then, as you throw, shift your momentum towards your front foot. That's how I was taught.

Dobbs looks more impressive physically than I expected.

Dobbs is smart which makes him a quick learner. Whatever he might lack in refinement won't last long. I think he's underestimated by a lot of vol fans.

I don't feel like I'm getting hammered at all, but I guess I see your point. Fade posts purely fabricated crap about me suggesting "firing Bajakian" and "having a full scouting report on Worley", but what you take exception to is that I said bad habits "will" carry forward into games instead of "may" carry forward into games.

fwiw... no one has actually disagreed with the observation. Rather, the comments have simply stated that it's not important for QB's to practice "not staring down their receivers" during these drills. And I'll stand by my original comments... I'd rather QB's practice looking off the safety during these drills rather than staring down the receiver, which is what 3 of the QB's were doing.

According to people from TSR who jave watched practice not just a 3 minute video Riley has better arm strength than Dobbs right now

Yes, I have read this, too. I watched Dobbs' senior video highlights, about 25 minutes worth. He really had some good receivers. A lot of short passes turned into 75 yard TD's. He mostly had short to medium passes, but not many down the field bombs that went for TD's. Looked really good when he had to tuck the ball and run, and has a nice little spin move. This is not a slam at him or his abilities at all, just an observation from the highlights.

That said, I hope we will RS one of the freshmen, and it's probably going to be Riley. I just think Dobbs has an edge over Riley overall.

Ferguson seems like he has a slightly later release than the other 3. Anyone else feel that way?

It looks to me like he has a little longer stroke than the other three. As he gets stronger, he'll be able to shorten it up and still get the velocity on the ball.

I had to stare down this post a few times just to see if you were directing this to Worley or misdirecting it to one of the other qb's but faking out everybody on this site. Still not sure.

I don't think you can take a lot from this video, but honestly, I'm a little worried about Worley based on past game performances, O&W game, etc. I think he is indecisive, stares down his receivers, lacks touch, and has a long release. In other words, I think Worley = Matt Simms.

That's not all bad though. Like Simms, I think he is a good leader with a great attitude, and he probably has a better feel for the offense. Not to mention he seems like a genuine good person. I hope I am wrong about his abilities, and either way, I will cheer for him if he ends up our starting QB. May the best man play! GBO!!!

Gotta say Worley's arm has definitely gotten stronger. I know coming out of HS his arm strength or lack of it was one of his negatives but he has really improved on that. I have been pulling for Peterman mainly because of his ability to use his legs and still am but I think Worley could have a great year, especially if the WR's continue improving. Sounding like North is really impressing and could be one of the starters. If Croom, North, Blanc and Pig are our first 4 that is a really good combo of big receivers and quick ones. Curious to see how the WR battle shakes out, especially with North, Smith, Johnson and Jenkins considerably improving our WR group as Coach Jones said.

Did you ever actually see Simms play? There are zero similarities. Simms was completely incompetent. I'm confident Worley will make you a believer this year.

I was at Neyland Stadium every home game of Matt Simms' UT career, and 4 away games. I've seen Worley take meaningful snaps in big games, and I've seen him in two O&W games. I'm no expert, but I've seen enough to at least form my own initial opinion, and I respectfully outlined what I thought were their similarities in my post. Your statement, "There are zero similarities" is simply your opinion, no better than mine.

I could be wrong on Worley (I hope I'm wrong), but so long as we aren't bashing our players isn't this a place to respectfully discuss our opinions/insights? Both sides seem to get a little worked up.
