Vikings

Ummm that is a matter of contention. As are a great many things about the Vikings. Facts are incredibly hard to come by when it comes to them and their legends/deeds. A great many scholars accept the fact that Ivar was crippled in his legs. But what you said may really be true. I am not taking either side, just pointing out that calling it a "fact" is a little erroneous.

I saw it on a History Channel documentary. Looking up the name of it now.

It was discussed in documentary Real Vikings. The episode after S4E12 of its namesake. This season they have been airing this documentary series after episodes of Vikings.

It is not fact but conjecture. I am sorry if I misrepresented it as fact. They are thought to have found the grave of Ivar but it is uncertain since Ragnar and his sons fall under the category of mythical figures due to a lack of historical writings. Outside of the sagas there was an Anglo Saxon chronicler who mentioned Ragnar's sons.

The fame of Ragnar Lothbrok was more so his sons and not him.

Of all of his sons, Ivar is the most famous. He led the Heathen Army to conquer North Umbria and sack the town of York. He was ruthless. Matter of fact, he wasn't boneless at all. The translation for boneless and ruthless are one in the same. The Vikings during this timeframe wielded considerable influence throughout Europe. England even had a Viking king at one point, Cnut the Great.

With all that being said, this season or maybe one more is all the material (historically) they will have to work with.

Well that may be true, but I was actually thinking more in terms of star appeal with the cast. I think Travis Fimmel rose up as a star and being a pretty charismatic lead, he was kind of the show for many. With him gone, I'm not seeing really anyone else on the show that can fill that role.

If they only have about 1 more season to work with historically and that's what they are planning on, then it's kind of moot because it can definitely last another season as is. But if they are planning on several more seasons, I'm not sure I see that.

Give Ivar a chance...He ended up the greatest of them all. The guy playing him will have to do a good job, so far he has played him as sort of a half-crazy angzty punkish kid. He will have to grow as an actor to push that character to who it became...A really bad man. All the Ragnarssons ended up BAMFs. Ivar and Bjorn being the most BAMF.

Bjorn rules!!! "Not with my momma, you don't!"

Really cool when he walked through the door and everyone's knees started knocking.

Reading recap of last week's episode, and there are viewers actually miffed that they treated Islam more respectfully than other religions. They need to compare notes with that Danish cartoonist who still has a fatwa out on him! :eek:hmy:

It is getting pretty bad when you can't even tell a story without someone's PC jimmies getting rustled.

I also liked Rollo's homecoming......his wife is a spitfire!

They have already signed a 5th season with the History Channel. But the material is moving quite fast. It haseems until a 6th or 7th season imo.

Unless they have some historical basis to go on, I thought it was pretty silly that all of a sudden Floki doesn't want to kill others participating in another religion. He had no problem slaying monks and priests. It was moreso just him though, others were still slaying and the one did behead the guy.

I can understand the criticism because IMO it was out of character, even though Floki is older and I guess wiser.

Umm it did kinda seem like a puss out.. You have no problem writing scenes of them gutting Christians praying, yet suddenly Floki grew a conscience at the sight of Muslims praying?..I mean Floki? That character hates every other religion, but not Muslims? I don't know their reasoning, but it did SEEM like sort of a puss out.

That is the issue..If it was Bjorn it wouldn't have seemed so weird, but Floki? Really? I'm not buying that. At least not till they expound on his issues a little better.

I think Floki has evolved. Ragnar questioned his religion and knew Ragnar was exploring Christianity. Knowing this Floki may have begun to respect other religions. He did let the Muslim girl go with them.

We will see. Ragnar was never a hard edged dogmatic character though..For Floki however this is a fundamental change in who he is. We will see how they write it before I buy it. It does seem like they didn't want to piss off muslims too bad, so they softened it by having Floki have some kind of conscience attack. I don't think the real Vikings ever took it easy on anybody.

Because THEY WILL BURN EVERYTHING DOWN AROUND YOU! :scare: Gotta check out world events brah! Casey Affleck played Jesus breakdancing in a SNL skit a few weeks back...this Christian laughed. You mention Mohammed the wrong way and your family is in danger. Call it a "puss out" if you like...I personally don't blame them. What good is art if you're too dead to be congratulated for it?
