What the heck did he do (individually) besides a couple good runs, to make him be on the cover of the game?
That's ridiculous! I can name two rookies that deserved it more than Vince Young, and I only have to talk about one NFL team in doing so. Vince Young was an absolute joke as rookie of the year.
Please. Reggie Bush? Yeah that 3.6 ypc average was really impressive. Vince Young ran for only 13 less yards on 72 less carries AND rushed for 1 more TD than Bush. Colston would be a better candidate than Bush and was a very good rookie but he was no where near as important to NO as VY was to the Titans. Take Colston away from NO and they probably have a very similar recor but if you take VY away from TN they probably only win 3 if they are lucky. That's ridiculous! Exactly. Colston is a nice player but VY is a much more important piece of his team. Another angle is that Colston had a pro bowl caliber QB dropping footballs in his lap while VY really had no help outside of Henry.Colston missed several games with a sprained ankle and it didn't really slow the offense down
While I agree with you that VY in not the same caliber YET, the cover is not an award.....It is meant to sell games. LT was the first choice but refused, so I think you would be hard pressed to find a better marketing tool than VY once LT said no.Vince Young may have been the most deserving rookie, but in no way does he compare to the former cover athletes of past games. It just goes to show that being on the cover is not the same honor that it used to be.
