Virgina Tech's Helmets

What is it about some people thinking making every uniform black is "cool". You must pine for the Miami Sharks to really become a team.

i like VTs uniforms. definatley, definatley not an every game jersey. pretty sweet to pull out of the closet now and then.

i like Boise's helmets, not that funky half-grey jersey theyve got going.

i suppose if you lived in the 60's or 70's (cant remember exactly) you wouldve lobbied against chaning the "T" on the helmets then...?

If every other team was putting a "T" on their helmets, then yes.

It's got nothing to do with change, it has everything to do with change being cliche.

What does that little strip on the back of their helments say? On that last playl they had a close up and it said UT something!

I'd be up for an alteration if it looked good. However 9/10 times these Nike Pro Combat Unis have looked like utter crap.

Not to mention new doesn't necessarily mean better. Remember those pants we wore for about half a season in 2002? That had nothing to do with the fear of "new" and everything to do with the fact that the pants looked stupid.

edit: for some reason, the multi qoute didnt work. i also meant to qoute Duckman398686's response.

i respect both of these posts. im not saying we need to rush out and pick up some wild and crazy uni's. most are crap (see 4473657/4473658 of Oregons jerseys). but whats wrong with trying something new once in a while? nothing needs to be permanent. in fact i have great pride in our uniforms.

there was nothing wrong with the way the black uniforms looked. people are butthurt because they are a stray from the norm. it was a nice twist for Halloween. im completley content with not seeing them for a few more years.

I'd be willing to bet that there's 15 or less teams in major FBS football who consistently feature a black jersey set.

First of all it's got nothing to do with "consistently" wearing black, it's got everything to do with the fact that when a new uniform or jersey is introduced, you have very good odds that said jersey/uniform will be black. The point being that it's not "new" or "cutting edge" or anything like that, since so many teams have done it.

In recent years I have thought that Oregon's jerseys look like something that would look good in the XFL when that lasted, but not in college or real pro ball. VA Tech's jerseys tonight fall right into that same category in my opinion. Also, the black jersey trend once a year is silly to me. I don't know when getting out on a field and playing ball became so fashion-oriented, but maybe that makes me an old timer.

I like the way that UT has always had plain orange jerseys with white letters, white helmet with orange T and one stripe down the middle. To me it shows a strong tradition where the new jerseys every year like some teams have look like they don't really have any tradition.
