3) Elliott will have something to prove against UT and you can bet he and Swinney have communicated over the summer regarding game planning the Vols. I am as ecstatic about the Orange Bowl win as anyone, but you know it didn’t go according to their defensive plan and I’m sure Swinney has figured out how to correct it. Now, whether or not UVA has the Jimmies and Joes remains to be seen- it’s just that the potential is there, IMO.[/QUOTE]

Everyone last year knew exactly what we were going to do and could not stop us.

Doesn’t matter if he had eight months or eight years to prepare they don’t have the defense to stop us. What do you expect the guy to say? He’s ready to get this curb stomping over and move onto other games.

Honestly, I’m concerned a bit about this game for a few reasons:
1) Always the potential for the Vols to come out flat in the opener. Lotta sunshine being pumped over the past few weeks
2) UVA will be inspired and selling out due to the players they had killed last year. I’ve read several articles, in particular about their RB, that suggest they’ll be emotionally charged. Vols cannot let up and must withstand all that

There really is no potential for anything other than a beat down. Virginia simply doesn’t have the athletes to keep this close.

That makes zero sense to me. If there's one game where you would NOT come out flat it's the season opener vs another P5 team who just happens to be coached by a guy that turned you down.

Swinney is not going to spend any of his time trying to figure out how to stop UT. He has his own problems to figure out.

I'd be shocked if any of the players cared or possibly not even know who he is.

An argument could be made that the fans might be more charged, but I would suspect that the vast majority will be more like me; relieved he is on the Virginia sideline - We dodged a bullet

I like how the writer is sure to point out how Viriginia's offense was nearly dead last and Tenn #1.
I’d like to see where UVA ranked on seconds between snaps, and plays per game, compared to us last year.

I’m sure it’s a similar disparity. But might be a better indicator of “tempo”.

I think Saban said “You can‘t practice for the speed”, or something thereof. I hope they (Virginia) don’t try to pull stunts to effect the rest of our season (a la Georgia).

Of all the games this season to worry about (if any) this is not one to stress about IMO.

Vegas is looking for 42-14 VOLS and they only get paid when theyre right. VOLS by 28 with over/under at 58. As usual they are dead on in my opinion.

FWIW i do not have unrealistic expectations for this 23 team
I think we go 9-3 and hopefully a NY6 bowl game to get to 10 wins. Followed by playoffs in 24 and 25 when 12 teams get in and most years after that as long as we keep CJH and top 10-15 classes every year. We landed a great class for 23 and the kids are already making an impact on defense. The 24 class is shaping up to be 1 of our best classes EVER and without a doubt the best class since Fulmer was here.

The future is very bright. GO VOLS

I wouldn’t expect it to make sense to you. I’m just stating my concerns, as I have been an avid Vol fan for 30 some-odd years and recall quite a few times when the Vols unexpectedly had their hands full with what was, on paper, an overmatched opponent early in the season.
Should the Vols win convincingly, I will be even more encouraged about the potential for this season than I am now.

Dabo didn't have a chance at stopping Milton and the Vols offense last year, so I hope Elliot is taking all the advice he can from him. Take the over, and bet on the Vols to cover.

The Vols should could come out w energy but a team’s psyche can change if they turn the ball over, give up quick scores etc. My main concern is how Joe plays and how he reacts if he throws an interception. Joe admitted that in the past he struggled to move to the next play after he made a mistake or threw a pick.

I think TN wins by 23.

The talent gap is just too large. I'd be worried only if either Band Boy Butch or Gumpy McCornbread were still HC here.

I do suspect the DC is conducting daily lessons using UVA's drama students on how to fake an injury. They're gonna fall like they've just been struck by lighting and be back in there two snaps later. It won't matter.

I believe our current FB staff and coaching will have us ready and has seen those “flat openers” enough to overcome and adjust. Nashville has not been a “lucky” place for the Vols in awhile. Spanking Vandy in November helps but, it is gonna to be sweltering hot in the stands and on the field 2 September. Better by hydrated and rotating players a lot.

Even though we live just over an hour away, we are not going to this game. We will be up by 20+ at the half and at that point we will take the boat to the lake and listen to the Vol Network during the second half. I might watch the second half on Sunday just to see what I missed on the radio.

What the Virginia D cord does not understand is that most teams 2 minute offense is still slower than we go all game.

I expect this game to be like Vandy last year; by the late 3rd quarter I expect us to be ripping off 35-50 yard runs as the defense gets tired and we put in fresh legs on offense.
I think he is trying to lower the Defense's anxiety about the upcoming game.
He knows they're getting smashed.
I expect multiple backs to have 100yds, while they worry about the passing game.
