Hi Everyone,
Im former Vol Isiah Victor and I will share with you what I saw in tonights Game vs. UVA.
Areas of Improvement
* The Vols started off slow offensively tonight and an unforced turnover on the first possesion of the game foreshadowed this.
* We seemed to lack the energy that is necessary to win on the road, until late in the first half.
* We need to eliminate all unforced turnovers, as they are usually contributed to a lack of focus or anxiousness (7 assist/12 turnovers). Post players should take a look around for defenders before they make thier move on the block. Guards should take a second longer before they release the ball for a pass to ensure the player they are passing to is alert.
* We struggled from the 3 point line (3-19) We need to get more inside/out 3 point shots. Most of our 3 point shots came from passes around the perimeter, which is a tougher shot for us and much easier for the defense to guard. We need more penetration ending with a pass out to the shooters, it makes for a much higher percentage shot as the shooter will be squared to the basket already.
The Positives
*We attacked the basket with the dribble drive well, putting pressure on the defense and drawing fouls
* We showed resiliency as we fought back after UVA was in a position to put the game out of reach
*We won the rebounding battle, this shows that we gave good effort
Overall
We took a tough loss tonight and with another score under 40 point, I think that a lineup change could be coming soon. We have starting players struggling with their role on the team right now and its only fair to give the bench players a chance to prove themselves in that situation. The player that it inserted into the starting lineup usually plays with more energy and the player that gets benced is usually much more focused. At 7 games into a long season you don't panic, but we must try something different if we want different result. There is plenty of time to turn get the season going in the right direction, plus we have the coaching and the talent to do it. With that in mind I feel that we will finish this season up strong.
Thanks for your time everyone and if you get a chance check me out on WATE 6 at 11:30am on Sundays for Enrichment Sport Source!
