I misread it my bad. Or it’s possible he transposed them. I’m all for rewarding success but I don’t think there’s a bonus structure this aggressive for any coach in any sport.
You're probably right. Probably endorsement deals and stuff in there. I would say the percentage of base pay is much higher than in a large revenue sport like football though.I think the key word concerning the bonuses is “base pay”. I’ve not seen a breakdown of his contract but typically the base pay on the contracts are considerably lower than the overall total package. For example, of Heupel’s $4 million salary, “only” $275,000 is considered base pay.

I was typing this waiting to take off then lost my ground internet connection. Under his old contract it was 32% of his base pay of $300k instead of the full $600k he was paid. Had he not forgone/postponed it as part of the pandemic shortfall he was due $96k in 2021 for making Omaha. So I didn’t see anyway that would change. Under this new deal it would give him the opportunity to push $300k in bonuses with the APR piece (32% of $350k and 40% of $350k).I think the key word concerning the bonuses is “base pay”. Found it. Vitello’s base pay is now $350,000.
