VN Article: AZ OL may visit UT

Just wanted to let ya know we spent about 4 hours on campus today. For an unofficial it was very good, except most of the staff was on vacation. We spent some time with the assistant OL coach, met with Chuck Smith, Bennie Wylie, Jason McVeigh and his staff and spent a lot of time with Terry Joseph (all very nice down to earth guys). Told us they would like to take 4-5 OL in this class. They are suppose to set down and break down his tapes on Monday once the rest of the staff are back in town. They were impressed by his build for a LT, especially hand size and wingspan (right arm measurement 34" which according to them 31" is average for a player).

Ty really liked Oregon, but since being here this week he has really taken a liking to East Tennessee. The campuses make the choice about even. We have the edge in that he wants an engineering degree (which OU doesn't offer), he couldn't believe the size of Neyland once we were down there, and the fact my daughter is here. Now if we can just get them to make an offer we will be in the game.

Hey WeBleed,
The help you give the big orange can't be overstated. One of my good friend's is Mack Crowder's dad (Mack is an OL on Tenn's offer list now) and I'm workin' him with hopes that he'll be wearin' the "Power T" in the fall. Mack's dad (Mike) just e-mailed me today and I can tell you he REALLY likes Dooley and LOVES Coach Heistand.
Comin' from a history of college lineman I can tell this group is top shelf. Keep up the good work.

Whooo! If you have a rivals account watch his video from the nike 1-on-1. At one point he grabs a guys shirt and flips him on his back and has to be called out by a coach. That's the kind of intensity and nastiness so many of these big guys are lacking. (In his defense, he patted the guy on the chest after)

It's good to hear, I'll catch up with Tyler tomorrow, catch a few lines. Glad he got to meet a few of the coaches and grab a quick tour on the visit.

We wanted to rearrange his flight for tomorrow in hopes of getting back over there to meet with the rest of the coaches. However, with the events of this weekend, I don't think we will, just because those guys will probably be busy sorting through the issues with the fight. Ty has had a great trip here none the less. We went out on the boat at Norris yesterday, so he got a taste of the East Tennessee summer on the water. Met a bunch of people that did an outstanding job of showing their TN pride and commenting about how he should come to UT.

We will just have to wait and see how this plays out and whether or not the staff decides to make an offer or not. Hey Steeler, maybe we could get Mack and Ty to talk sometime since they have actually met and spoke to the OL coach here..

Sooo, the debacle on Thursday night did not deter him from wanting to come? What were his thoughts on it? I am scared that this fight is going to have a lot of negative effects on recruiting.

Here is the thing about that. Anyone who thinks that these things aren't going to happen in college and around college athletes are kidding themselves. I have heard stories about things that have gone on around christian campuses.... That being said anyone who truly wants to attend, or consider any school would not be deterred by the actions of a few people, but rather by the way it gets handled by the powers that be (ie head coach, OC, DC etc.). So no, this hasn't, nor do I feel would it affect his decision.

We have already discussed and tried to work out the logistics to get him back here for the Oregon game for an official ( assuming he gets and actual offer ). It would be tough, because he would have to leave right after an away game against Ironwood, but he could be here by around 9am Saturday morning. That's all just a bit premature at this point.

That's good to hear. I just knew he did not know much about UT and then he comes to town and this is one of his first experiences around the program. Good luck and safe travels!

Vol fans started friending Ty on Facebook? He's a great prospect football-wise, and he must be a good kid, if you're cool with him dating your daughter. That's about the best character recommendation someone could give.

You know I don't know. I haven't asked him that question. I know Terry Joseph has, but not sure about any UT fans. Would be cool if some did. I have been very selective over the years about who is allowed to date my daughters. Tyler is a kid that would represent us as well off the field as on the field. Comes from a very good family, and he makes very solid decisions ( minus the occasional minor 16-17 YO stuff). He understands from being around the AZ Cardinals organization what is at stake, and how one bad choice can/ will affect the rest of his life.

After we got back in from the lake last night he told my wife that UT and Oregon are definitely his top two choices..
