VN Article: Tyler Bray talks Tennessee visit

We are an unknown commodity on offense. That's why we haven't gotten a QB commitment. It also doesn't help that we have been recruiting one QB at a time. We could have had Brunetti and Rettig if we weren't trying to lure Scroggins away from USC.

Hey Matt,
Is this the recruit you were referring to a couple of days ago... news we will want to hear soon?

Same here.

I'm glad I didn't get caught up in that "surprise" thread. The scroggins thread was enough for me. Here is my surprise, if we win the games, & show improvement on offense, we could have a top 5 class. I think we will finish strong on signing day. We will get a QB, & some more high quality players. Imo, the key is to show improvement & win, especially during these key "official" recruiting visits.

I haven't been on in a lil bit.. what happened to the "it has legs" or whatever thread. We ever figure out what all that was about? Did it get merged?

Yes.

The legs thread recap. Phillip Sims was rumored to be considering TN. Matt Prehm shot down the rumor. Then recently Matt heard that there might be something to the rumor from an insider he trusts. That was the start of the surprise thread. The surprise was not that Sims would commit but that Sims would take a visit.

Now Matt says Sims is not taking a visit, that Askew cannot get him to come.

Askew for his part has said that in two months (which would be after a win against WKU and UCLA and a good showing against UF) that we will be able to get Sims to listen to us.

Here is what we have going for us, within the first month of play we will have highlights of Freshmen that other schools do not have to play. Sims will know what it will be like to play with Prater and Stone and Ambles and Bryce Brown and Nuke and Oku and Teague etc. He may well stay true to Bama, but TN will get some surprises to end the class...think Ronald Powell, or Luc, Ego Ferguson, Damien Robinson, Uko etc. We will get some of them I am sure.

Sounds like a real good sleeper QB prospect to me. Good height/frame and good arm. Sign him up, beef him up and coach him up -- and he just might be a really good one. Good luck!

Well how did san diego state manage to get a 4 star qb ? why didnt he have any bigger colleges?

He was under the radar. Bray didn't get his 4th star until recently. He committed early before many schools got a chance to see him. After he blew up at some summer camps, he began climbing in the rankings and bigger schools started to take notice of him.

bump

I'm not sure exactly (i'm sure it's in his recruiting thread on here), but it was something along the lines of that he was still looking at Tennessee and was listening to what the coaches had to say and that he didn't receive an official written offer until after he committed to WVU. That last statement sort of implies that IF he switched, that's the reason.

Whereas Bray seems really uncomfortable about visiting another school while committed and he's only doing it to obtain further peace about his SDSU commitment.

Uh............... just no.

I don't think Brunetti is ever gonna come here, and it is only a matter of time before Bray is.

Not Neyland by any stretch of the imagination, but I would assume the Chargers have first rights to use it. In other words, they play in a borrowed stadium!
