Yea, I would have to agree. I cannot really make a list of favorite songs. My moods and tastes are constantly changing too much.

Agreed, so we should think of it as "All Time" list - which is why most of the songs on here are seasoned. It's tough to say a new song is definitely on the list.

How do you feel about the Blasters? (I see you have a lot of roots rock type bands here).

I've seen Dave Alvin a few times and the Blasters once. Phil Alvin sweats more than any human in the history of mankind (even more than Moses Malone)

LA Woman (The Doors) --- gotta have some Doors on the list

Agreed, and that's a great one. But "Light My Fire" might beat it out. Personally, my fave Doors song is "Peace Frog."

And we probably ought to have some Dylan and Hendrix on there, so how about "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Purple Haze"

Hey Ya! is going to go down as one of those crowd pleasers, regardless of age, ala "ABC" or "Centerfield" - crap, "Centerfield" has to be on the list.

Like a Rolling Stone blows away about 90% or more of the songs currently listed.

Also,
Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
God Only Knows - The Beach Boys
Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix
Break On Through - The Doors
Heart of Gold - Neil Young

I'll post some more later.

Matt Weddle's acoustic cover of that song is amazing.

Remember, this isn't a "favorite" list. I'm looking for the "all time greatest" songs. If most people aren't familiar with it, it probably shouldn't be there.

Adding:

Fix You
Margaritaville
Billie Jean
Born in the USA
Keep Your Hands To Yourself
Country Boy Can Survive
Devil Went Down to Georgia
Purple Rain

Sorry, but Poison has to have a song, as I think they embodied the great Hair Band era more than any other: question is: Talk Dirty to Me or Every Rose? Same question for Def Leppard: Hysteria or Pour Some Sugar? Madonna needs a song too. Votes?

Oh, and the only DMC song that can possibly compete is Walk This Way, with Aerosmith. Smash hit at the time.

Tom Petty: Last Dance with MJ? or American Girl?

You didn't ask for all time most popular, which is what you've just described.

Agreed - I picked mine based on personal liking, genre and historical impact (e.g. Kick Out the Jams, Orgasm Addict and Search and Destroy were instrumental in the development of the punk rock movement) - I think they are some of the greatest songs of all-time.
