You know what really made my mom mad? Started as you suggested having to go outside and get a bush branch or switch and coming back with either one of two things. Something covered in leaves that would take an hour to de-leaf before it could actually be used to smack my butt/calf muscle or a thin pathetic dead branch that would disintegrate upon contact.

I remember trying that and being sent right back out to choose another. lol.

We had two primary tools at parents disposal. Inside, dad had a very narrow, super limp belt that had to be form his childhood. Outside, we had a weeping willow tree. The worst was when you had to go outside and fetch your own willow branch to bring back inside.

A good willow switch would wrap around your leg at least once and welt you up. And whatever "offering" you took back better not break or you'd be right back outside getting another one. Been there, done that. I turned out alright and I wouldn't trade 1 "time out" for 10 whippings.

How did any us that got spanked survive? Lol
