Something that actually makes me a little angry, we were supposed to wear pink socks and wristbands as a part of the Adidas "allFight" program. For the third year in a row, our head coach declined. The AD may still step in, but if he does not we will be the only Adidas school not to participate. Again.

The pink wristbands and sideline hats will still be sold with a portion of the proceeds to benefit breast cancer research.

Don't really mind that...I feel like this whole breast cancer awareness month is unfair. What about prostate cancer? What about children dying in third world countries? Why does breast cancer get all the attention, and why is it a focus in a male dominated sport? It makes no sense and all other worthy causes are pushed to the side for boobies. Don't get me wrong, not making light of breast cancer, but there are many other problems out there (and I think the pink incorporated in the uniforms looks stupid and tacky anyway).

And you're not the only one that feels that way, and that's fine.

But whether you agree with the premise of the campaign or not, I just think it reflects poorly on us that we are the lone school that doesn't participate, when all we have to do is wear different armbands.

Correct.

If the school doesn't like that it's only breast cancer, help develop another program that's all encompassing.

I actually totally agree. It is the power of marketing. Breast Cancer is awful, but it isn't the only cancer in the world nor is it the leading killer of Americans.

As an interesting comparison, almost as many people kill themselves in the US each year as die of breast cancer.

Don't get me wrong, it is a good cause, but don't belittle it by making it a fashion trend. Besides, if the point is "awareness" of breast cancer, then why market that to a demographic that is most watched by 18-34 year old males? Besides that, how much does that sort of marketing cost to be as ineffective as it would be considering the demographics? Wouldn't that money be better spent returned to research or medical care and not marketing?
