Vol WR Commit Matt Milton Senior Highlights!

He's an ideal possession receiver. His speed is good but not great, although something I noticed in the video makes me a firm believer that this kid is going to be a star.

His first step off the ball is going to put every defender at a disadvantage, he doesn't get jammed at the line and while he may not blaze trails with his speed, he does make moves at full speed, which cannot be taught.

You look at the receiver commits we have, and then look at what we have coming back and you HAVE to get excited.

Commited:
Kenbrel Thompkins- Freakish speed and agility
Ted Meline- Game breaker who has already proven (playing in Miami) that he can play with the best
Markeith Ambles- Can catch ANYTHING
Matt Milton- Red Zone Phenom

Returning:

Teague
Jones
Moore
Stocker

And of course Rod Wilks...lol

He looked pretty fast on the video..the kids gonna be a beast. Sometimes kids are faster on a football field than their 40 time indicates.

That might be true. Jerry Rice only ran a 4.5 but he did it with or without pads. However usually HS 40 times tend to be generous.

Your joking right??? Guess ill be the negative nancy here...

That is where he is going to have trouble...he will have to work extensively at getting off man press...if he was not an ee than i would say redshirt. The cb comp. in that video are at best high school all region guys...

He will be a wr asset for UT in the red zone and possession... but he will struggle early on with man press...

If the DB tries to jam him he will have the ability to run him over them because of his size. I would assume that most DBs will just turn and run with him. Thats what will make him such a good possesion reciever. DBs will be forced to give him a little cushion.

I don't see him being jammed, his size will really be a factor to opponents. Besides being a physical receiver, he's 6'6 with great field awareness. Stocker has been pretty good and he's not nearly as fast as this guy.

From a standstill??? No. It is much easier to jam guys that are bigger...we are talking SEC cb's here... and all you have to do is disrupt the route....if say Milton just ran straight into a cb that would def. be enough to disrupt the route....

and give him a cushion?...No...that would just invite the qb to throw it up in which the cb would def. be at a disadvantage....he will constantly get jammed....

Might be wrong but I always thought you would want to jam and disrupt the route and timing of a speed guy. That way the QB can't hit him for a quick slant or hitch and go.

With a possesion reciever you want to play the ball. You lay off a bit (not a 10 yd cushion) inviting the QB to throw then make your break. If you guess wrong your not afraid of the guy running past you because you have the speed to recover. If you try to jam a physical reciever then he is going toss the DB to the side and the QB will lay it between the the DB and the Safety.

I think it's really going to depend on if he has the strength to match his size. If he doesn't then he will have hard time adjusting. But if he does then he will terrorize SEC CBs for the next three years. You can't tell from a high school tape. We'll just have to wait till he gets on campus.

T.O. gets jammed? Plexico Burress gets jammed? Big physical receivers who don't have 4.3 speed, would you say they wouldn't succeed in the SEC? I Pity the fool who tries to jam him.

Michael Irvin would love it when DBS would come up and try to jam him. He knew he would win the physical matchup all day long.

Your points are valid...but with laying off a possession wr and playing the ball...that is more along the lines of say...g. jones....

If you lay off of Milton and play the ball than a cb would find themselves helpless...due to his size 6'6''. So the best approach would be to not even let him have a chance...which can easily be done with him...because of his average quickness...no SEC cb is going to have to worry about Milton running past from a standstill.

You are right..we will wait and see... Don't get me wrong...I hope he is all SEC...just what i noticed from the film...

Did you seriously just compare those wr's to a senior in high school? lol...

You are saying a big receiver is easier to jam, that's the point I was making. More recent comparison, AJ Green!

A big wr like milton.... not very quick...especially from a standstill...yes they are easier to jam...very much so.

The comparisons to the wr's being made are ridiculous...those guys are gonna get their catches no matter what a cb does...jam, bump n run, cushion, etc...

I agree. My first impression was that he would make a better tight end or defensive end than wide reciever. He looks like a stud but it might be because everyone else looks like they are on the jv squad. I'm going to say possesion reciever. With a 4.5/40 he's too slow to stretch the field.

Are you serious? Since when is a 4.5 guy not a deep threat. I agree that there are faster guys, but geez your tough. For a kid to be his size and run a 4.5 is pretty impressive. He definately hasn't seen close to the speed, strength, and conditioning training he will this summer. To say that because he doesn't have World Class sprinter speed he can't be a "field stretcher" is borderline asinine.

just to chime in, bigger WRs are alot easier to put hands on in Man press.
KnoxVegas is correct on his assessment.

Someone like Dez Bryant and AJ Green are Huge, fast and extremely quick.

Milton isnt just gonan step on the field and beat press coverage.

Has rare size. What sets him apart from other kids with that size are his athleticism, coordination and speed at that height. He has good acceleration and straight line speed and could be a real deep threat in college. He also has good ability after the catch, able to take short passes and go the distance with them. Relatively inexperienced, he just needs to continue to work on some of the little things, like blocking and route running.

Good acceleration,, and has exceptional body control.

He's a project for sure, but with proper development, could be a superstar at the college level.

If he runs a legit 4.5 then that it is impressive. All Im saying is that some of these times are self-reported and tend to be generous. A 4.5 time can turn into a 4.6 in full pads which is not that impressive. Plus if the DB is running a 4.3 or 4.4 then your really no threat to run by him which means no need to roll a safety over.

Everything Ive seen so far indicates that he is a physical reciever. Generally those guys have a WR on the other side that stretches the field.

I will add this - Our coaches analyze ever detail of a player. If they offered him a scholly then he has the potential to be something special.
