My fiancé hit a pot hole in her car today & it caused a bald spot. It's not a huge spot but it's noticeable when you get close. The steering wheel doesn't vibrate but you can feel the tire. Will it be alright for a while or should I Change it when I have the chance?

Yeah. I just don't understand how a pothole would do it.

Forgot to mention it's not even 3 months old 😭😭😭

If the tires are only 3 months old, take it back where you bought them and ask for a warranty replacement.

I got it at Wal*Mart. I don't know if they have a warranty? I'm gonna google it

A lot of places include a road hazard warranty. Also, try and figure out where the pothole was and report it. The state may reimburse you.

If you got road hazard with the tires at Walmart they will replace it. I would think 3 months has put little to no wear on the treads so it shouldn't cost anything. Walmart and Sam's are both good about tires.

A flat spot from a pothole? She must have slammed on the brakes too.

I wouldn't trust it, the inside belts have probably already started separating, leading eventually to catastrophic failure and possible destroying the fender and inner gender of the car and any wiring or lines near by.

Take it back to Walmart and demand a replacement , it shouldn't have a bald spot from hitting a pothole or slamming on the brakes, that could also mean the wheel and brakes may have locked up causing more concern for brake and caliper integrity, Walmart may see it as a liability and replace it for free whether you have road hazard or not.

My dad owns a tire shop and I grew up around mechanics and tires. So I feel comfortable in giving advice.

Rock, is it a bald spot or a flat spot. A flat spot would mean the inner belts have broke like Beatbama is talking about.

She must have seriously locked it down to create a bald spot on a nearly new tire. Either way, replace the tire asap.

Walmart gave me a new tire. They said it was just a bald spot. Paid to get it balanced and aligned too. Should I look into new rotors brakes?

Look into tires in the future from Goodyear, Firestone etc. for road hazzard warranties on 70,000 mile tires, free alignments and discounts on everything else, they seem to take care of their customers and they won't argue with you, they'll replace something for free if they think it's a hazzard.

You could definitely get a proffessional opinion on your brakes, if they're sounding or operating weird go ahead and replace the pads for sure and the rotors should be turned anyways, maybe calipers are peaking and causing lock ups, or the sytem needs to be bled. Brakes locking up in the rain can be dangerous especially when the rainy season is ahead .

How old is the car and what make model?

I wouldn't,unless the brake pedal shakes when you get on them hard, that is how you tell if the rotors are bad,you will feel it on the brake pedal or they squeal will be the brake pads

if the steering wheel shakes, it is a tire out of aliment, could be at different speeds

hope this helps

What mule said. Also get on a straight road and let go of the steering wheel. If it pulls either direction you need an alignment.

So I got another question for you mechanics...

Got a 2003 Honda Accord EX (4-Cyclinder) with over 220K miles... Over the last several months I have started feeling a hard vibration when the car is idling at a stop. If I turn the steering wheel either direction (while still idling) the vibration is even more noticeable. If I turn my AC off the vibration cuts in half but is still there, particularly when I turn the steering wheel. I've had my mechanic check the engine mounts and he says they are all in good condition. My AC and heat work so I don't feel that it's my compressor putting any strain on the engine but have not had that completely ruled out. The vibration isn't really noticeable while accelerating, really only when idling.

Any thoughts as to what could be causing the serious vibrations?

Idler pulley(I'm pretty sure it's a serpentine system) or another pulley on alternator/ac compressor/steering pump/ maybe even harmonic balancer, is check with the cheapest one which would be the idler puller/tensioner pulley. Then go from there.

Take some white out and dab on a few areas of each pulley(with engine off) , have some one turn the steering wheel, watch for anything that may get out of line, try wd40 on the pulley that's noticeably out of balance, and if the vibrating stops you may have found your bad pulley, the alternator should be fine since its smaller.
Edit: there are bearings in the pulleys that will go bad.
God luck, it worked for me a few times to identify that problem pulley, go ahead and replace your belt to after you find what causes the vibrating.

Another suggestion and it's cheap is to have the throttle body cleaned and check/change the plugs and wires unless you've done that recently.
