I think CDD has done a soild job in 1 1/2 or 1 1/4 classes. One was holding on to what we had this one filling needs. Let`s see what the 2012 class looks like.

I have read in many places that dooley has a couple of big names that hes holding out on till nsd. I have heard it from a couple of sources. They dropped one hint that i could remember but it was a 4 star from Louisiana. From what the others were saying is dooley has 3 or 4 more 4 stars that hes keeping a secret until nsd.

This class is a class of NEED for us this year. It is a good class and will build depth and also help us win football games.

UT needs players at every position though...

I think the "filling desperate needs" is more or less done- Four DB's, 2 WR's, one DE, 3 DT's, 2 LB's, 4 OL's, 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 Kick return specialist/slot.

The only two "needs" positions left are another LB and a TE. Besides that... they should be able to go after the best available player regardless of position.

I'd like two more LBs because it doesn't look like Askew is ever going to do anything. Other than that we came into this recruiting season with more needs than available spots.

I ran a couple of potential ranking scenarios using Scout's ranking system and the 8 most likely (using info form this board) of the last 25 recruits most people think we're after (making some assumptions about other teams in the top 25) and I think that if we land 7 or 8 four stars we're in with we will be end up between 10 and 15 on Scout and between 7 and 10 on Rivals. That would make this years class better than last years. I'll post a detailed version of it (with assumptions) for everyone once I have 20 posts to start a thread if people are interested. I think that we'll be okay.

With a month almost exactly to NSD, I'm curious to see how volnation feels about Dooley and his staff with their recruiting before the final push. I think we are doing good right now, and will have a solid class, but would love to get one more HUGE name. What say you volnation?

Think we finish at 17, if we could land say Wright, Rome, CJ Johnson, Richardson would that crack top 10?

getting rome does not look good but that group with clear would still be stout.

I do like the fact that Dooley evaluates every player but I do not know if his recruiting style will help him at UT.

First, I am waiting to see if the theory of looking at a 300 mile perimeter around Knoxville is a sound decision.

Second, If he does have secretly committed players then why do we not hear of more players recruiting for UT other than Pat Martin. When we have been successful in the past we have used committed players to recruit other players.

Third, they seem to concentrate on a select group of players which may hurt them if they strike out.

Fourth, I will be very concerned about this staff's ability in recruiting if they do not land a top running back when you consider our deficiencies there. They seem to be able to get kid's attention to consider us but that is as far as they get. Having said that I think it would be a waste of a scholarship to take a average player here. In that case take another top player at another position.

I am very happy with what they have done at QB, WR, and offensive line. And that is a great base to continue rebuilding.

I am pro-Dooley and think that he will put us in a solid competitive position. He seems to be a class act and wants to develop the players holistically. Looking at his staff I think he has put together some great developers and ok recruiters. But my concern is if he is a big boy that can play for championships in the SEC?

It is looking worse each day on some of our chances. Besides Richardson and Clear, I don't see us getting any more 4 or 5 star guys.

I'm curious to see if this theory is sound as well. When I first heard Dooley talk about this, I questioned whether this was a wise approach. We don't have the largest recruiting budget in the country for nothing. We have always had to recruit nationally to find top talent and I'm just not sure if limiting ourselves to a 300 mile perimeter is the answer.
