To me, this thread proves the importance of a coaching staff who can judge talent. Despite Fulmer and Chavis' shortcomings, the men know how to spot talent. UT is in a unique recruiting position. We don't have a particularly strong in-state recruiting system so we have to recruit nationally. There just aren't enough 5 star recruits to go around and UT is not one of the more flashy, trendy places to go play college ball. Our coaching staff has focused on being a pro-factory in the past and this has caused us some character issues in the past. Now, our staff seems to be focusing on the family atmosphere and taking higher character players with good GPA's. Most 5 star primadonna recruits aren't going to have strong academics and won't be particularly impressed with UT's family atmosphere except for the truly special one's like Eric Berry. As long as we land 1 or 2 five stars, 5-10 four stars and a lot of solid three star recruits we will be fine and will have better team chemistry than a team full of over-hyped underachievers.
