unfortunately we have fallen way behind in this category, there is no reason we shouldn't be first in this category. though i will say as far as quality of players in the NFL goes, Tennessee is first, 6 pro bowlers should tell you that.

The number will drop as player exit from the league based on the gap vs. the other schools between 08 and the present

Seems like we flip flopped with Miami for the top spot every other year for close to a decade. The slide is telling of where our talent level has been the last few years. We aren't replacing players at the same clip they are exiting the League.

that will show just how much of a quality coach jones is when he brings tennessee back up to the top of the list

Only if UT puts hardware in the trophy case.

Does it really make you feel that great about the program when NFL teams are stocked with former UT players but their time at UT didn't produce anything?

I love it when I see former Vols on Sunday, but I shake my head at the same time thinking UT should have been better while they were there.

I may be slightly intoxicated, but f*** you Dooley.

You mean the guy who recruited our first round pick last year? Or the guy who recruited the second rounder who had a first round grade?

I swear the dooley hate is staggeringly pathetic. Let it go people

This should improve with time.

It wouldn't surprise me if our entire OL makes it to the NFL... at a minimum 3-4 of them. McCullers will make an NFL squad. Johnson/Maggitt should make squads in 2 years as well.

That gives us at least another 6 in 2 years. And this isn't counting the talent Jones is bringing in that might be filling ranks in 4 years.

Dooley and his tenure are what's staggeringly pathetic. Worst coach is UT history by a mile.

He deserves every bit of hate he gets.

And still had a losing record. Dooley sucked, and that's just the way it is.

You mean the same guy who won had more nfl talent on the team than wins? People that accept mediocrity in their lives are pathetic. If you ain't first your last so get your ass on board.

The slide is telling of where our talent level has been the last few years. We aren't replacing players at the same clip they are exiting the League.

I would not say that this is a function of high-school players entering the program but rather a function of how well our coaches turn whatever players they have into pro-level talent. I understand that 5-star hs recruits are ahead of their peers when they are seniors in high school, but many of those 5-stars turn out to be worthless and many of the best seniors were not 5- or even 4-star recruits. It ain't the players, it's the coaches.

I don't have the numbers on how many 4 and 5 star players turn into busts (who does) but I would agree that determination, hard work, and coaching will often get you further than natural ability and god-given talent...

For instance, I like that Jones has twice (that I've seen) talked for a good bit about "eye violations" and coaching up players to not be glancing into the backfield... The level of fundamentals being installed by this staff are in a different league than Dooley's time here... Not to :horse:

Ok, but what other statistical means (aside from looking at actual recruiting classes) could you evaluate/predict whether a team puts a lot of talent into the NFL or not.

I don't know if there is one. The QB's in last year's SB were from Delaware and Nevada.

Recruiting rankings happen when these kids are 16-17. A lot happens by the time they're 22.

Or off of this board. Did someone seriously come to dooleys defense? His vfl card should be revoked IMO.

I think the numbers are about 30% of 5 star players and 15% of 4 star players make it to the NFL.
